Ex-Colorado TE Reinhardt, injured at Autzen in 1984, to attend Saturday’s game

Ed Reinhardt Jr. will attend Colorado’s game Saturday at Oregon, the first time he has been back to Eugene since he suffered a near fatal injury while playing a game at Autzen Stadium in 1984.
He is expected to be accompanied by his father, and the two are scheduled to stay in Eugene until next Wednesday.
A tight end for the Buffaloes, Reinhardt suffered a blow to his head when it struck the thigh of an Oregon player on an otherwise routine play. The result of the blow to his head was a blood clot on the brain, and
Reinhardt was in a coma for a month while being treated at Sacred Heart General Hospital before he was transferred to a Denver hospital.
A surgeon involved in the case told Reinhardt’s family there was a 90 percent mortality rate from injuries such as the one suffered by Reinhardt, according to a 2009 story in The Register-Guard.

I read about his story before this season started..... It would be cool if they made him an honorary captain even though that is usually reserved for former ducks. Hopefully he gets a great ovation from the crowd..... Sadly I can't be at the game so I guess I will look like and idiot by clapping in front of my TV.

The people of Oregon were really wonderful to the Reinhardt family following the injury and the family noted that to the media several times. As much as I dislike knight and the flash, I still like the people up there.

So much so, that his youngest brother, Matt, played TE for the Ducks. I have never been able to hate the Ducks due to how they treated Ed, his family and the Buff family.
