Starting Five

Somebody posted this on twitter the other day, but I think it is worth discussing.

We all assume that the starting 5 is going to be Dinwiddie, Ski, XJ, Dre and Scott. Assuming everybody stays healthy, does anybody think that we will see a starting lineup that deviates from this?

Besides the normal suggestion that Ski comes off the bench. Nope.
A better discussion might be how many minutes will everyone play.

the staff seems to have designs on Chris Jenkins filling that role of the bench for us this year, assuming that he can get strong enough to compete in college.

I read somehwere that Chen is part of the starting 5. Ski, Chen, Mayor, Dre and Scott.

XJ is the question mark in my book, does he give us much that Dre doesnt? He's young and need to develop. My guess would be the season starts with Brad's starting five and progress's to JG's.

If ski comes off the bench who replaces him? Chen?

Yeah. My argument, which has been copied from others, is that the starting lineup doesn't need the scoring. The bench unit especially if Chen, Adams, SHT are involved will need the scoring. The x factor is one of the freshmen playing bench minutes and scoring.

I don't think this will happen. The more logical is that someone in the starting lineup gets taken out at the first timeout like in the NBA and ends up playing a lot of minutes at the middle-end of the game.

I heard that is sounds like Jenkins and Talton are in line to red-shirt, but that final decision is going to be made this week.

You have no idea how much I hope this is what happens. But through two years Tad seems to like to play "shifts or units." This will be interesting to watch on Friday.

Dre didn't start his freshman year. Neither did Ski. But they played starter minutes.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Chen start for us. I'm much more interested in learning who will be on the court at the end of games, though. That's the real starting 5.

George Karl? Is that you?

I'm in total agreement on this. From the tidbits of news from the papers, interviews and blogs, it seems that the coaching staff is concerned w/ getting the frosh up to speed especially on the defensive end, which lends to chen starting as he is a solid defender(remember last year Tad used him to guard from the 1 thru the 4/5 depending on our big's foul situation and how the matchups looked) and if tad is underplaying his hand, he has mention chen has developed a good outside shot which I was quite surprised he kept up w/ Ski in the 3 pt contest at Buff Madness.... All in all, it seems the frosh know how to score(Scott and XJ) and the real concern is how they defend...

4 more days to Colorado Buffalo Hoops!!!!

How they defend seems to be Tad's chief concern as well, in his post-practice comments today he said that he told XJ not to worry about his offense and focus on his D.

Chen starting in XJ's spot would make some sense, Tad can't really start Chen at the 2 and have Booker coming off the bench again after anointing him a starter this summer. I was really surprised to read that about Chen's 3pt shooting as well considering he made zero 3's last year.

didn't you also post that he missed all him attempts in Europe as well?

I may have, I honestly don't remember if he did or didn't make one in Europe. I just looked it up, he did go 9-33 from 3 in two years at DU, so he has that going for him.

If tad is sandbagging us, then we are loving it.... if he is overstating it... we're hosed....

I didn't know where to post this but I had my Intro to Business final today, that class sucks, but it was in the Keg and they are painting on the wall opposite of the elevation wall something about our PAC 12 championship. It looked like it was Nate cutting down the nets, but it looked pretty freaking awesome.

I would hope all the returning players worked on the most obvious weak points of their game this past summer... otherwise we as fans are in for a long season a la CU football...

Don't like that my boy Jenkins may RS. If he is tho, wonder what that means for our scoring this year... someone must have stepped up.

in tad we trust, but kill chen starting with fire.

Chen starting means one of a few things. 1) His leadership has improved drastically and they need him on the court, 2) His shooting has improved to the point where we need him on the court often, or 3) The freshman do not understand how to play defense yet and would be a a liability at this point.

Since Chen guarding the occasional forward isn't a defensive liability...
