Another major failing of Jon Embree

Not sure how many of you have picked up on this and probably it shows up somewhere in the dozens of threads asking for Embree's head.

I have always like his apparent transparency and honest answers to questions. But has anyone else found his response to the question "What's wrong with the defense?" with "I really don't now" or "I wish I knew" to be offputting to say the least?

Last week he was asked by a reporter about how involved he is in the defensive planning and his answer was he doesn't have time to dive into the defence because he is diving into the offense and trying to manage recruiting.

Dude you should and hopefully are on the hot seat. For god sake-fix the problems with your team. I think he hasn't done much with D b/c he has no clue what to do about it and what is wrong-he said so himself.

You can not have a HC incapable of getting his hands on O, D and special teams. The only exception I see to that is if you have a wicked offensive minded HC and he hires a wicked D minded DC w/ BCS experience leading top 20 defenses. We are far from that.

I am watching his weekly presser on pac12.com right now and Embree is absolutely dilusional. I know he can't be completely candid because he has such a young team but he is so clueless it is unreal. It is so evident that this guy is in over his head that this administration has to snap out of this trance and make a move asap. Please.

what has he done right? seriously, name one thing other then painting a brick wall.

This year's freshman class is the best class CU has had in years. Would look even better with a healthy Dillon and if Jeff Thomas hadn't gone back home for the fall semester.

^^This, plus they finally have solved the academic support / emphasis issue. Remember we are just a couple of years removed from being one of the few BCS schools to ever lose FB schollies as result of the previous regime's academic mismanagement.

Based on what exactly? The playcalling would be the same god awful **** we've seen if JT was here as well. Webb would have still played. The defense still would have been this bad (filled with a good amount of JE recruits on both sides of the ball) and I don't think JT would have such a big impact that our offense would be vastly improved. Dillon would probably be dead by now to if he played.

What about the larger point? What recent class has as much talent as this year's freshman class? 2008, maybe. And most of those players didn't pan out. Katoa could have been a stud, but it didn't work out. I also think that Jeff Thomas and Shane Dillon could have made an impact, but that's pure speculation obviously.

By the way, I don't think the team would have been vastly improved either way. My point was only that this year's freshman class appears to have quite a bit of talent. We'll only know for sure in the next couple of years.

Old and outdated uniforms?!! Not sure if serious.

I agree that the 2012 class was pretty good although it is not showing on the field. I agree he bleeds black n gold but so what? I agree he helped get academics in order which is good. The other thing in general is that it seems there is a bit more discipline based on much less off field incidents and a massive drop in penalties on the field compared to the Halk years.

But in the end coaches are evaluated on wins and losses and in a situation with a more bare cupboard-coaches are evaluated on recruiting, improvement from week to week, increasing the competitiveness of the team even if it doesn't show up in W/Ls. On this most important criteria he has failed absolutely miserably-among the worst performances of a team throughout a season in CU history (and BCS history while we're at it.).

I heavily disagree that Dillon would've made an impact. He came from a tiny private school league and will still probably be raw next year. No way does he roll in and change the entire offense this year. JT would've helped, but the difference wouldn't be that much.

It's hard to be tolerant of "bare cupboards" comments because this erosion picked up huge momentum only because Hawk's stay was about 4 years too long. Fans wanted more time, then they got it!

But I also don't fault coaches for substituting vague, directionless non-comments instead of tired old cliché-filled nonsense. Of course, Boyd's comments may list certain words or phrases, but his bigger concern is the tone under them - what Embree is behaving like, what he's doing - and not doing. We've seen quite a few homefield demonstrations that show his abilities all too clearly.

If we don't want more bare-cupboards, it's time to bring in someone who'll coach up what they have, improve every player they inherit and stop wasting time looking at shelves that have NOTHING TO DO with the product on the field. Every coach in CU Football was hired knowing what players they had immediately.

But CU Football's "coaching up" has been a huge negative for many seasons now.

Some coach's boss should be grilled on THAT. How many department heads would keep their job if their profs were turning out such poor results with their classes?

I don't have much patience for the "bare cupboards" comments when I see and hear the way Embree has deliberately (and with malice) alienated Hawkins' players.

Nor I. Those players had ZERO choice in the coaches THEY had THEIR futures handed over to. But that's my complaint about NCAA rules that lock players in, anyway. Schools don't want a coach? Fine. Fire him. And then let players have another shot at re-locating for THEIR future benefit, too.

Even worse is the prospects of seeing Recruit Rankings that put Embree's group far far below other Pac-12 and regional competitors.

If Hawkins had a shovel, digging the pit for 'his' CU Program, then Embree sounds like he's driving a steam-shovel.
