It is clear that the school is trying to frame the message about keeping Embo

Terry Frei article today in the Post

As a longtime college and NFL assistant before becoming Colorado's head coach, Jon Embree has seen the phenomenon at work. He likely will be allowed at least another season to try to revive the beleaguered Buffaloes' program, but he also might tone down or deflect criticism by making staff changes.

It has become clear to me that the school is now leaking the same message to the regular journalists - trying to use them to frame the messaging that will be coming out in a few weeks about how Jon Embree is keeping his job

Let me guess, Bohn is going to be in Charleston with the basketball team when there will be an announcement that we're keeping Embree. Sound familiar?

We really need an Independence CC type calling campaign. CU is beyond a joke.

What amazes me is that EVERY journalist is buying in, hook line and sinker.

Have you seen a single Colorado journalist call for Embree's head? Hell, I haven't even seen anyone say that Brown / Bieniemy should be fired.

Terry Frei needs to realize that it is no longer the late 60s/early 70s in college football, which is how he seems to approach any college football discussion. Head coaches and assistants at BCS schools get paid a LOT of money these days, so less job security is a tradeoff.

And please, stop using the tired and lazy comparison to McCartney's 1984 season.

Look, there is no such thing as journalism anymore, these hacks write what they are told to write. CU's PR folks have leveraged their influence and the story they want told is what goes out. It is a shame they didn't do that for GB, but then again, the admin. has been torpedoing FB for a decade now.....

This is a national joke. No one, not even Kansas would do this, allow a HC who is clearly in over his head, continue to run the show. But CU will not only do it, but do it for the second thime in three years. The admin. will not spend one nickel extra on athletics. Period. Dr. Phil and BB should be mercilessly booed at every public function.

CU is afraid of being called racist. That is a factor here.

The irony here is that this is the last situation in the world that would be desired by anyone who is genuinely concerned with the job prospects for minority coaches going forward.

That applies to every situation when race is a factor in any way, not just this situation.

Yep, the school has sent out a ton of smoke signals through the media this week not to expect a HC change. The only thing left is for Bohn to stick his neck out and definitively state that Embree is the guy next year.

Pathetic. MB will be required to fall on his sword again, accepting all the blame for a decision he probably had no say in. I actually feel bad for the guy.

The powers that be are scared of their own shadow, and seeking to be all things to all men. Hardly the sign of effective leadership.

The Camera (I forget who) did call for GB's head the other day. Haven't seen direct calls for JE or EB though.

It is worth posting in a couple of threads... Really feeling down today, and this sign was perfect for my emotions.

Folks, the CU administration won't say it's time for Embree to go until they're prepared to fire him!! What do you expect them to say? You either fire him and his staff or show some level of support (which by the way has been minimal). It wouldn't make sense to say he's a goner unless they're prepared to let him go mid-season.

That is true - but I don't think there would be all this smoke about the changes to the coaching staff if they thought he was going to be fired. The discussion would be focused around Embree himself, and about how 'he is our coach' - not about how the assistants are getting shuffled.

Why do I get the feeling that Embree is just going to shuffle the current staff. Moving Brown back to db's and moves Cabral to DC.

His mention in the Camera today about these coaches having families worries the hell out of me. I'm not sure he has it in him to make the necessary changes.

just counting the days till this train wreck is over, bummer JE will get another year

Not sure why we continue to be surprised that it looks like JE will be back next year. Although it's become abundantly clear to most of us that a change is warranted, the administration has been pretty unequivocal throughout that they plan to stick with JE for at least one more year. This article makes me no more angry than I already was.

Because it defies logic.

While I acknowledge that the President, Chancellor and AD are privy to information that we don't have, there is sufficient information (i.e. results) for the fans to make an informed decision. Yes, there are some emotionally-driven conclusions, and some evidence of mob mentality.

But when you sit down and look at the facts. And when you perform an honest assessment of the importance of football to our institution. And when you look at the digression of this team, which is far more severe than accounted for by the talent, the inexperience and lack of on-field leadership. There can only be one conclusion.

Seriously, only one conclusion, from a rational perspective. No one, and I mean NO ONE has provided a credible arguement for keeping Coach Embree.

That's why we continue to be surprised.

And you get the impression that even though Ringo is just reporting what he knows or has heard, he believes that JE deserves a 3rd year.

That aside, it's all but official that JE is here for at least 1 more year (I'm sure this has already been posted elsewhere....):

CU's second-year head coach is struggling to turn things around with a bleak 4-19 record entering the final two games of the 2012 season.

Embree will almost certainly make major staff changes during the offseason. Bohn will also add support staff to help the coaches identify and evaluate recruiting prospects.

There is no chance Embree will receive a pink slip.

Even if the Buffs (1-9 overall, 1-6 Pac-12) -- who will try to put some whipped cream on a unpalatable year with a home win(s) against Washington and Utah -- suffer a second consecutive double-digit loss season.

Another email that I just sent. Copied BB and PD not that it matters.

Hi Mike,

I know you have been hearing from a lot of fans about the state of the football program, myself included. The information that is leaking out into the press and is being passed along to the fans via articles, is just downright disturbing. The fact that we are still comparing the current situation to what took place with Coach Mac 30 years ago tells me that we are grasping at straws. The fact that we are talking about changing staff, including only one of the coordinators, sounds like we are trying to plug holes or rearranging the chairs on the deck of a sinking ship. Instead of getting to the core issue of why the ship is sinking, we are trying to put bandaides on gaping wounds.

This vision needs to be broader than what we are seeing. The cost of making staff changes on a full scale basis are going to pale in comparison to the loses you will see in revenue over the next year. Season tickets, parking, concessions, merchandise, advertising value, etc are all going to take major hits. While saving the pennies associated with the buyouts you are going to be stepping over dollars that will not be recovered.

On top of the financial issues above, the current stafff is not producing recruiting results and it is only going to get worse. We are already behind on talent when compared to the rest of the Pac 12 and we are falling further behind. The strong suit of the current staff was supposed to be recruiting and they have failed to produce in this area. The constant beatings we are taking each week on the field have only increased their inability to capitalize in this area. Times have changed since Coach Mac walked the sidelines. Information is available to recruits instantly. The games are being shown on TV every week. ESPN and other media outlets are making jokes about CU and the football program.

When you add all of this up, keeping the current staff on board only delays the process of CU digging out of the current mess. The current situation requires bold steps to right the ship. We need to give the fans, recruits, and the college football world a reason to believe. This will require a new staff, not reshuffling the chairs on the deck. This will require a comprehensive plan on facilities with details and timelines. It means laying out a vision, strategy, and the plan to get there.

I do not envy your position. I believe the politics involved are tremendous and are hindering you from making the changes you know need to be made. Unfortunately, we need you to make the case and be the leader to get them pushed thru. CU needs to demonstrate that they are dedicated to being a leader in the most important sport in the athletic department (from a revenue and reputation standpoint).

I sincerely urge you to take this situation as seriously as the core, dedicated fans do. The cost is just too immense to not take bold action and lead and the current direction is going to set CU back at least another decade.

Sincerely,

Buffalo Brad

Herein lies your dilemma. If at this point you still have faith and confidence in these administrators to apply logic in heavy doses with respect to building a football program, I sense continued frustration in your future.

I am not a season ticket holder, but those are the people who are going to hold the most sway in this decision - because they are the ones who are directly donating to the football program, through the purchase of their tickets and the payment of their seat tax / donation.

To me - the most effective method of communicating my disapproval of the current course would be to return the remaining tickets to the athletic director along with a letter, which states that I will not attend another CU football game until a coaching change is made, and I will not purchase season tickets again (nor make donations) unless and until a change has made. I would probably add that if a change was made I would increase my donation, over last year's donation amount.

Emails and facebook postings and twitter postings and all that certainly have their place, but nothing is so personal and powerful as a direct letter, personally signed by the party.

Just my two cents, which are easy to give from the sideline as a person who doesn't own season tickets.
