This is the best example of why the BCS doesn't work.

The "National Championship" game will now be decided by a popularity contest and who lost earlier in the season.

Its moronic.... and what is funny to me... the South has it right.... (or ESPN does)....

pump up your teams that you have the big contract with.... front load them in the rankings, and one of them is bound to get in to the game....

Make sure that they play the tough games a little earlier in the season in case there is a loss. Lets have just 8 conference games so we have 1 less loss per team.....

then we will get a team in.

It is a brilliant system and the college presidents of the other conferences have no idea they are being swindled.

I'm not sure it "doesn't work".

If Notre Dame wins next week they'll be undefeated. Is there any case to be made that they SHOULDN'T get into the title game? I don't think so.

The winner of the Alabama / Georgia SEC title game winner will have one loss. I don't think it's much of a popularity contest to say that the winner of the SEC is probably (at worst) the 2nd best team in the country and deserving of getting into the title game.

The idea of the BCS was for the best two teams to play. I can't think of too many people who will say Notre Dame / SEC winner aren't the two best teams.

Besides, in 2014 the system will change and the top FOUR teams will get into the championship series.

So, what you're saying is that the SEC Champion should be automatically ushered into the title game?

Yeah, that makes sense.

why not analyze all of the 1 loss teams and see who lost to the highest ranked team?

You my friend, are smitten by the ESPN SEC spin machine.

Agreed. I think Oregon, FSU/Clemson, KSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida all have legit arguments to play for it all. Hopefully the next couple of weeks clears the picture more, otherwise it will be a popularity contest and the SEC will win. If ND loses, we will likely have a Florida-Bama BCS championship.:puke:

The solution is still simple: sixteen 8-team conferences. There's an end of season "rights bowl" for every team, pitting all 8 teams of Conf A against all 8 teams of Conf B, and pair up all sixteen conferences. That's the "bragging rights" bowl - my conference beats your conference!

Then, every winner of the #1 vs #1 games moves on to a true play-off. By seedings? By regions to ensure bigger visiting fan participation? Whatever...

It only takes 3 more games to determine a playoff winner. Start with sixteen 8-team conferences.

"To heck with traditional conferences" will be the battle-cry. Of course, all the naysayers will say, "But traditional conferences MUST exist!"

Really? Which ones? The SWC? The Big 8? The Pac 8?

Show me ANY traditional conference in its traditional form NOW. Show me ANY traditional Bowl Game that existed exactly as it did in 1960! Funny - all of those "traditions" were so easily cast aside FOR MONEY.

And this is what a sixteen 8-team conference true-playoff system would be all about. The simple and truthful acknowledgement of Being About The Biggest Bucks Possible.

Acknowledging this truthful, honest fact wouldn't be bad one bit. It IS the real tradition, after all.

Entering this week, the BCS computers had Florida State at #17 which was behind Michigan. FSU's only loss: by 1 point on the road against bowl-bound NC State.

Get rid of the computers in this thing.

That would probably be Florida who lost to Georgia. Both one loss teams but since Florida lost to a higher ranked team than Georgia UF gets the nod. Perfect Plan.

Their SOS is 93. Looks like they have played one ranked team.

Look it up yourself if you are interested. Bama would have been 10 point favorite against OSU.

Ha ha you fold so easy. Here is a hint they played and beat more ranked teams than bama last year. Did you mean underdogs versus LSU?

The computer rankings lost much of their validity when they removed the margin of victory component a few years ago.

Stanford might be the best team in the country right now. Beat Oregon in Autzen and got the screw job from the refs against the Domers in South Bend. The loss to UW kills any argument they have, though.

But, but, they lost to Iowa State!

BC has an excuse for every argument.
