Only at CU would your job be safe when you're 23 point underdogs to a 4-7 team at home. **** you Benson and DiStefeno. You're ****ing embarrassments to the University of Colorado name and every alumni.

I don't think I've ever heard this sentiment on this board before. Wow!

What is really sad is this is a larger spread than we had against Washington which is a better team than Utah. Of course Utah is really good defensively, so we will likely look about the same as Saturday on offense.

Bruce Benson is an oilman, Republican activist, failed candidate for governor, co-chairman of Mitt Romney’s (now ended) campaign, successful fund raiser, donor to the university, former chairman of the Metropolitan State College Denver Board and chair of a blue-ribbon panel on higher education. Obviously he has a strong interest in education, but his highest degree is a B.A., and he has never been a member of a faculty or engaged in research or published papers in a learned journal. In short, he is no way an academic, and yet he is about become the president of an academic institution, and not any old institution, but a state university ranked 11th among public universities and 34th among universities overall.

Not surprisingly, the announcement a short while ago that he was the only candidate being put forward by the 17-person search committee drew protests from faculty, students and some alumni. The faculty assembly voted 40-4 against him. A group called ProgressNow gathered signatures for an “oppose Benson” petition. The House Majority leader, Democrat Alice Madden, said that when she heard the news, she though it was a “really bad” joke; she added that “he will be the least educated president ever considered in modern history.”

To be fair. Good old Hank posts a blog posted in 2008. I was almost young then. Us sports fans only judge Benson on our football program. He gets very low grades for that. But his, you know, main job is on the academics side. Now, I have no clue how he is doing in that regard and will not opine as to his success. But my understanding is that he is doing well in leading CU academically. But, as I said, I have no clue. I know many of you do. How is Benson as an administrator, taking athletics out of the equation.

You'll be glad to know that CU is decreasing in academic prestige with each passing year

The reason for CU's decline in US News and World Report and similar rankings is that our admit. percentage is so high; this is largely exogenous, IMO.

Unfortunately he keeps sticking his nose into that job.

I could care less what his party affiliation is as long as he is dedicated to having a strong football program.

Tends to happen when your OOS tuition is sky high and only rich kids can go to CU. The moniker "ski U" is fairly accurate.

No it's mostly the state funding is non existent which brings it way down

Reading that bio makes me really like the guy. If liberal egghead academics don't like the guy, then that's usually a VERY good indicator he's the kind of guy I would like. Too bad he's FUBAR with the football program.
