What is the purpose of AllBuffs?

Is it to be an independent forum where fans can discuss CU football or is the purpose to further the (near-term) interests of the Football program?

The mission statement doesn't really answer this question, and this ambiguity is creating problems. The slogan suggests "for the fans by the fans" which suggests independence.

It is a contradiction to say that Allbuffs is a neutral arbiter merely commenting on other news stories on the one hand, and then in the other, to take ownership of that information to appease particular interests of the football program. (I'm not impugning the integrity of anyone here,, but I am saying there is some confusion that needs to be addressed)

If the purpose is the latter, then the priority becomes furthering the CU brand. Censoring "negative" topics looks advantageous. Constructive (not slanderous) criticism of recruits, players, coaches gets in the way of building buzz and glowing word-of-mouth reports.

I recognize that honesty is not the current standard or cache of business and marketing, but I would argue that over the long run, honesty builds the strongest brand loyalty. I also believe that one of the traditions of CU is to value honesty even at the expense of short-run results because the long-term benefits of integrity are so potent and appealing.

The recent action to delete the thread about Brian Cabral brings this question into sharp focus.

I do believe that journalists need to respect their sources and to be honest about the contracts they make with them. So if Cabral was the source about his "sudden retirement", then the following can be disregarded. He has the right to determine how his personal, proprietary information is used.

I do believe the moderators owe the fans an explanation for this apparent reversal and some reckoning for what the purpose is of the site. The current position is that a thread was deleted because Brian Cabral wished it. That leads to the conclusion that the purpose of Allbuffs is to further the particular interests of the football program as they are conceived by the current stakeholders, but not to be an independent forum.

If the purpose of Allbuffs is to advance the interests of the Football program, then I think the site loses a lot if its potential value. It merely becomes a voice of insiders who are expressing their views anonymously, and in the long-run devolves into a propaganda tool.

I would urge that Allbuffs and the football program have more to gain over the long run by treating Allbuffs as an independent forum, and that means tolerating a wide-range of opinions.

The moderators are honoring requests from parties involved. Nothing wrong with that.

I only skimmed your thread, as I'm mid-coitus, but I believe the thread was retracted because the public information that was disseminated was called into question. Therefore the author was less certain of the validity.

Again, it was information that was originally broadcast elsewhere, so it was fair game. But it wasn't withdrawn to support an agenda. And it wasn't withdrawn by a mod, either, so it wasn't some official action.

The purpose of Allbuffs used to be to have fun. That was before you called us out for name-calling on your 13th post. It's pretty much been downhill since then.

I'd also point out that the same author of the post in question, has been working hard to convince posters to post the pros and cons of keeping Coach Embree.

You're looking for an agenda that doesn't exist, in my opinion.

Perhaps the thread still exists. Along those lines, I think AllBuffs should be free for everyone. I disagree with having to pay in exchange for an avatar. It should be a free site. There should also be more discussion about bears here. Like the one story about the bear that was caught on campus and released but then he died while trying to return? That should have been stickied near the top of the football forum. Crying ass shame that only went 5 pages. I can't believe I still post here. It's like you guys all have some type of affinity and sick loyalty to CU and then become all disgruntled when your university looks bad on national T.V. What's up with that? Anyways, just my two cents...

Test Photo. Testing 1,2,3... ****

I would also like to voice other grievances. Lately, when I try to insert a picture into my post, it is not allowed-forcing me to post it separate from my actual post. I'm also fed up with messages that say I have two reps awaiting me but then when I go view them, it turns out it's only one rep and an old rep that I already viewed. I'm fed up with that! I'm telling you now...this will not stand!

I'm having the same issue when I try to post pictures.

How could I forget that the main purpose of Allbuffs is the advancement of women's pole vaulting.

I can't speak for AllBuffs, but I can speak for myself.

I have devoted an inordinate amount of my time and energy to AllBuffs.

Just like all of the other moderators and administrators, I receive no compensation for this. I even pay my own membership dues at AllBuffs and pay for my own subscriptions at all of the premium sites so that I could do a good job covering recruiting for AB.

Why do it?

1. I'm a sports junkie.
2. CU sports is a passionate hobby for me.
3. Short of being able to donate $50 million to the CU AD, I saw AB as the best way I could positively influence the support level and direction of CU sports.
4. The friends I've made here have made this board something I value on a personal level, which reinforces and grows the 1st 3 reasons.

Generally, what I want from AB are a few simple things.

I want it to be informative. The main way that's supported is by compiling the information out there on the topic of CU sports so that every fan can see everything that's going on even if these fans can't afford to subscribe to premium sites.

I want there to be good discussion that engages other fans.

I want it to be fun and a little bit irreverent. It's sports, not quantum theory.

I want it to be a source of community that crosses from the virtual world to real life. Tailgates and other things make that happen.

Last, I want it to be a positive force for the growth of CU sports in the information age. If I'm this passionate about something, I want it to be successful. Therefore, I am generally very supportive, encouraging and positive about CU issues. I try to foster that. Sometimes, like at the end of the Hawkins era or right now with Embree, I believe that CU needs a kick in the ass so I go that direction.

I don't know how that fits in with what you want out of a web site, aeroxx, or whether it offends you that this does not necessarily agree 100% with an AB mission statement that I've never even read. But that's where I'm coming from. I'm an independent voice on here and, as with other posters, if I start a thread that I would like retracted or moved the other mods/admins accommodate and respect that as long as I have a justifiable reason.

P.S. If you want to help soften the financial impact of my site memberships, you may leave a bag filled with a hooker & blow donation tied under the Boulder Creek bridge on Folsom Street. Just put it under the "AB" carved into the wood. :smile2:

Holy ****! Nik is a mod! I had no idea. When did that happen?

Can the mods erase my previous post to support my agenda of not looking like a dumb-ass (I know, I know)?

Okay, the deed is done, and I've returned to read your post.

Dude. Post what you want. You can say pretty much anything here (except, apparently "Jesus ****ing Christ", which drew some heat the other day), and if you have a valid opinion it will be respected. I've been pretty much begging posters to provide a good reason to keep Embree, and so has Nik, and several others.

Look, if you post something ridiculous then expect to get beat up. That's the way it works. I wouldn't say anything to you here, that I wouldn't say to your face, by the way.

But if you substantiate your point, and it's logical/interesting/funny in some way, you'll be fine. Of course, you don't have the capacity for funny, and you're only interesting about as often as a Vulcan mates, but you seem to be logical, so I'd concentrate on that. And also on being less annoying (again, I'd say that to your face).

1. I am a fan of BuffNik, he has integrity and I won't question his motives WRT the post in question.
2. AllBuffs IS a forum for differing opinions, just be ready to support your opinion and deal with some blowback.
3. Don't screw with my AllBuffs damn it.
4. Liver, you may continue to complain as you did above

Carry on.

My first thought was LOL at the stupid thread title, realized it was armpitsox posting and I couldn't read it, saw that he was quoted and skipped everything after the first sentence, skimmed through some pictureless reference to sideboob (WTF!), and went back to my wine. That is all.

@aeroxx

Asking for the purpose and mission of Allbuffs is sort of like asking the purpose of Facebook, or perhaps the whole internet.
Allbuffs is a social media site. It's an aggregator of opinions, thoughts, humor and tragedy with a twist of deprevity.
Think of it as a neighborhood bar, where passers bye drop in for a little social interaction. The Buffs just happen to be a focal point of this community. The junta reserves the right to edit, ban, delete and add as they see fit. It's a not-for-profit labor of love.

As with any human endeavor, there will be inconsistencies, not-sequitors, misguided opinions, pure brilliance, and mostly a lot of wanking. (yank, yank, yank. sob. sob. sob).

Allbuffs: Because the real people in your life aren't as bat **** crazy about the Buffs as we are.

Also, while AllBuffs may have its heated debates on the important issues facing this nation (sideboob v underboob, cake v pie, In 'N Out v Five Guys, Pinder v Miller, Goldlust v Lucille, etc.)... two things we all agree on are "**** baylor" and that nude stretchie pants were a terrible idea.
