WTH is going on with Coach Cabral?

The Daily Camera reported yesterday:

More likely, the administration will retain Embree for a third season if he agrees to make some major changes on his staff.

That will probably include the firing of defensive coordinator Greg Brown and a forced retirement for loyal CU assistant Brian Cabral.

He didn't have a press conference, issue a statement or anything. Is he retiring or what?

But let's keep Bienemy cuz he is obviously not a problem

Ha! To think, of all the sh*t hitting the fan right now... They're pouring time/energy into forcing out the linebackers coach!? :wow: Don't get me started on Bienemy...

Seriously though, does anybody have more information on this? How can the Camera bury the lede like that? Was it a leak or pure speculation?

That's probably not the sort of thing that should be discussed in a public forum.

If only there was a forum on Allbuffs that wasn't public where we could speculate on these things.

Since I don't want to be forced to apologize, I will just direct everyone to the Brian Cabral Appreciation Thread in this forum.

Respect his wishes and let him move on from CU quietly.

For anyone else curious, I just caught up on Coach Cabral's situation after following this search query: http://www.allbuffs.com/search.php?searchid=4186878. Thanks Buffnik.

Ugh... My heart breaks today for Coach Cabral and his family. What is going on in Dal Ward...

Is the (U) a pacman or a toilet? Because the latter describes our season, not the former.

Bieniemy didn't play a part in the recruiting of the Seniors, Jr and redshirt sophomores especially on the defensive side of the ball. That's all Greg Brown and Cabral. They did a good job keeping their side of the ball well stocked with some outstanding athletes which was definitely shown in all its glory this yr.

Said it at the time they should have been gone (or not brought back on the staff in the case of Brown) when Embree was hired.

I heard that Cabral is likely retiring. Not sure how reliable my "source" is but you heard it here first haha.

Brian was a rock to the program and coached many a legend. Rumor has it there is health issue at play. He was always one of my favorites and I wish him the best.

So is allbuffs/nik gonna let them sweep this under the rug? Hoping for answers from others more in the 'know'.

Sorta got the idea that Cabral was "mailing it in" this year. I believe he was deeply hurt when Embree was chosen over him. After all, his long-term coaching and recruiting cred, loyalty to CU (it wasn't Cabral who bailed to UCLA!) and winning percentage as a HC, were a jillion times better than Embree's and he had the same "minority" status, which plays a significant part in coaching decisions these days!

Wouldn't be surprised to see him re-surface back home in Hawaii, on Chow's staff. Chow needs guys like Cabral.

douche x 10!

It is well known. We have "people."

Not sure who these "people" are and I get the whole anonymous source thing... However, Thorburn reports in the Camera today:

"Brian Cabral -- who was 2-1 as CU's interim head coach at the end of the 2010 season and worked for Bill McCartney, Rick Neuheisel, Gary Barnett and Dan Hawkins before Embree -- will probably be asked to retire." [Emphasis added]

Based on that it does not appear Coach Cabral has health issues and I have not seen "health issues" reported anywhere else. Coach Cabral was also not mentioned in this Thorburn piece calling for Brown's firing a few weeks ago, which was probably stoked by the Administration somehow since it appears he will indeed be fired. Who is asking him to retire? Brown? Embo? Bohn? Forever Buffs?

If the Administration wants us to keep embarrassing ourselves rooting for this program, we deserve insight into the decision-making process.

Insight into the decision making process will cost you more than I can afford. What do you think "insight" would cost? $25K? $50K? I dunno. But I'd bet my $200 will not get me any "insight."

Fair point. All I mean to say is that they (Embo, Bohn, etc.) are in leadership positions. Leadership means making decisions, sometimes tough ones. If there are reasons for Coach Cabral to step down, then they should own that decision and communicate it -- that's all. That sort of leadership garners respect from donors, fans, players, recruits, etc.
