DP Reporting Embree being Retained

This is bull****. What has Bohn or anyone seen that suggest things are headed in the right direction for CU football. How does Bohn sleep at night? I know the admin has him by the balls, but does he have no pride or self respect?

I'm with you. I posted in another thread the other day that if we polled other AD's across the country at least 90% would likely recommend his dismissal based on the facts (W/L record; statistical performance across the board; loss of fan support and declining attendance numbers, loss of interest in donations; declining recruiting quality based on 2013 class, etc.)

Although we maybe can still hold out hope because it was only Embree saying he had been told he is safe but who knows, maybe he isn't. We'll have to wait for the final word from the AD but it doesn't look good for those of us who feel a change at HC is needed.

I have thought about this a lot lately. If you think that recruiting stunk under Hawkins, then Embree had to start from scratch. If you believe that, well then year 3 should see improvement. Not year 1 and 2. I really can't find a program that was so bad from self imposed sanctions that has so few in grown talent within their own state.

I get it that there are barriers at CU. Your high school football does not produce the numbers of top talented kids that are needed to have a somewhat stable program.

These thought though do not prove or disprove that Embree is a good coach. I am just acknowledging that he stepped into a very difficult situation.

One way or another, Bohn has a decision to make; the decision will not make everyone happy. Just make the decision and deal with the concequences. Any delay in the announcement, just shows how disfunctional the program really is and opens the door for more rampant speculation and upsetness.

All of this has been decided. Coaches knew going into last night that they are gone. Only Embree wil be back.

ONLY Embree? So of the ten (10) coaches on CU's football staff (1 head coach + 9 assistant coaches) they are going to fire the nine (9) assistants and keep the head coach?

And we thought CU football was a joke before....

If you are Mike Bohn, why would you "consistently" tell JE that he would back be before even letting the season play out? Just another questionable mangement technique by our wonderous AD. By going to the media now and quoting MB on this point, JE has pinned him down with his own words. Guess MB decided I don't care what happens this year you are back.

While I don't think Embree will be fired, I wouldn't think that an athletic director's assurances would mean much. After all, Tennessee's athletic director was telling Derek Dooley that everything was fine, right up until he fired him.

This article means absolutely nothing. John Henderson is just generating interest. Embree is right in that his AD has told him that he will be back. Every coach hears that...up until they are fired. I have heard lots of rumblings this week that his job status may be more in question than previously thought. Just from a common sense perspective, how can MB possibly let JE fire basically all of his assistants, yet allow him to come back when he is wildly unpopular? I'll wait to hear about Embree from Bohn.

Because at CU, performance doesn't matter.

Getting rid of EB and paying him while paying another person to come in and suck under JE is a total waste of money. Would they really be this stupid?

Very true. Another sign of complete dysfunction and general apathy regarding the football program from CU.

Complete lack of leadership at CU. The guy who hires these assistants stays and all the assistants go. So this time he will hire all the right ones? WTF?

What kind of "coach" would stay after you forced them to fire their entire staff?

Our head coach has proven he can't hire competent assistants, has no game-day acumen, fractured the team, and can't recruit. Let's go ahead and keep him another year, let recruiting continue to be awful and make the hole bigger for the next coach. Should be an attractive job next year.

If that is true then our CU 'leadership' is even more disfunctional than I thought. The poor kids in the program, I feel sorry for them.

Whatever the shakeup, since it seems Embree is staying, I'd like to keep Kanavis around. He can recruit and we are gonna need it. Only way I'd like to see EB back is if he goes to rb coach, he's not ready for OC, he's a good rb coach tho. Gonna be interesting nonetheless.

This is one of the big issues I have with this thinking. We've been told by all the talking heads that the problems with the team are related to our youth, and the huge hole the program was in when Embree took over. Embree is building a deep foundation and firing him after only 2 years ino this massive rebuilding would set the program back further, right? Then why fire anyone? I thought us idiot fans just need to be patient?

Everything we've been lead to believe is that the coaching isn't the problem, we need to give Embree more time. But now we're about to fire certainly one an maybe both coordinators - short of firing the HC, this is an admission that our coaching this year has been totally unacceptable (despite our youth, foundation building, blah, blah).

How can CU honestly look fans in the face and tell us we need to be patient while they're desperately making major changes to the staff, and how does Embree escape blame for 1) the team sucking bad enough that we may fire two coordinators, and 2) hiring these clowns in the first place?

Who didn't think we would get the most illogical, completely political decision?

I am cautiously optimistic about these coaching relevations.

- with this half-step approach, the school acknowledges that they need to do something.

- with Benson on the clock, the door is open for the next president to be involved with finding the right guy. I am opposed to the triumvirate of Benson, DiStephano and Bohn picking the next head coach.

- this doesn't do much for 2013, because Embree's plan B is likely to resemble Embree's plan A.

But there is a window for real and meaningful change coming in the foreseeable future...provided the regents don't screw it up.

Good points about Phil &Bruce.

Who knows. Maybe Embree will get it right the 2nd time around.
