This is my second email about this situation this week. Following the Utah game you can count on my family's 6 season tickets in section 104 not renewed and not another dime of donation unless this staff INCLUDING EMBREE is fired.

Should he be fired we will renew our tickets and continue donating to the university. We will also happily donate to the cause of firing the staff it is needed.

Until then consider your money from us cut off.

Thank you for listening.

Focused on untapped donor dollars in Texas and Cali.....maybe these people will understand that angle.

Regent ,

My family won't be renewing our three (3) season tickets for football.

Cal-Berkeley paid ~7 million to fire their legendary coach Tedford, because losing was not acceptable. Kansas paid ~5 million to fire Turner Gill after 2 years of losing.

... And those are our peer institutions, correct? I will not waste my time/money on a University that accepts and fosters failure.

Mike -

I would like to reiterate my view that we need a fresh start in our football program. Please pull the trigger on the current staff, and bring in a proven commodity. I will assure you that a revitalized and successful football program will pay huge dividends to the university.

There is a massive, untapped potential in donor support here in Texas, and certainly in California. Start winning football games, and I will donate generously. I am speaking for many alums.

Mr. Bohn,

I am a lifelong CU football fan and an alum (XXXXX). I grew up in a small town in Colorado and I started watching CU football in the early 70s (when I was about 7 or 8) and I fell in love with the colors, the stadium, and Ralphie. I've been a big fan ever since, even though I have spent my entire working career in California. Some of my personal highlights include meeting Eddie Crowder when he was the AD, attending a Mallory practice and receiving an autographed jersey from CU player named XXXXXXXX when I was pretty young (he'd played high school ball for a California powerhouse high school team XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX), getting a personal pep talk outside Folsom from Mac soon after he was hired (along with my then girl friend, now wife of 22 years), playing high school football against Barnett's Air Academy team and then later meeting him at an alum function, etc. One of my prized possessions is a 1990 jersey, signed by Hagan, Bienemy, JJ, and OC. I mention all this so you don't think I'm some fairweather fan.

Over the years, I have donated to the CUAD, and to XXXXXX, and to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and to the scholarship program that helped me attend CU (XXXXXXXX). I've purchased season tickets that I rarely used, just to try to support the program. I've stopped all donations, across the board.

This brings me to the point of this e-mail. CU football has become a laughingstock here on the West Coast. In my opinion, it is damaging the reputation of the University as a whole, right at a time when we should be celebrating our membership in the Pac 12 and using this opportunity to engage our large and generally successful alumni base in the Pac 12 footprint. Rarely does a Monday morning pass that I don't hear questions and comments at work from a Cal or Stanford or UCLA grad about the state of CU football. The folks old enough to remember how great we once were are aging and there are actually people I work with who don't understand why CU was even asked to join the Pac 12. I find myself defending the program based upon historical glory that is now fading as the years pass. My fellow alums on the West Coast are, like me, fatigued by this continuing failure. We should be energized and upping our commitment to CU, but instead we find ourselves apologizing and explaining the situation and how we arrived at this low point.

In sum, I want a reason to believe again. Coach Hawkins seemed like a nice man, but he was kept longer than he should have been. That clearly hurt recruiting and put Coach Embree and his staff in a hole to start. But, I frankly see no sign that this staff can either coach or recruit our way out of this hole. Recruiting is going so poorly (according to all of the various services that cover such things)-- we aren't bringing in Pac 12 caliber players. And, the coaching has been truly awful to watch. The lack of experience has cost us in so many ways-- the team is not put into a position to win, youth and injuries considered. I'm a big fan of Coach Embree and his staff as people and as former Buffs, but they have utterly failed in their effort to turn this program around and they are not, in my opinion, well positioned to move us forward.

We need wholesale change. Our reputation is so damaged at this point that this staff cannot effectively recruit enough top talent to fix this. Please consider bringing in an entirely new staff, lead by a coach that has both the experience and the reputation to immediately effect a positive change, despite the hole we are in. This, coupled with a facilities announcement, would give us hope again. Ask us for money. Put together a big public campaign to fund our path back to glory. I'm not a huge donor, but I'll give if you sell the vision. The first step is to demonstrate that CU has a commitment to winning. I really believe you want to win, but I question whether the rest of the leadership even cares. I'd like to see signs that CU wants to win so I don't feel like I'm investing in failure. I'm XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX--- when I need XXXXXXXXXXXX to move, I first sell a vision and then I show tangible, actionable steps that work to achieve the vision.

You can win us all back-- we have a dormant, disillusioned fan base out here. Bring in a winner at Head Coach and start the ball rolling again.

Thanks for allowing me the chance to share my thoughts.

Dear President Benson, Chancellor DiStephano, and Mr Bohn;

I'm sure that you don't need me to tell you what a desperate state our football program is currently in. The damage to the reputation of our University is growing exponentially worse with each passing week. After winning two of the final three games in 2011, the team has regressed incredibly, with scores of negative records being set this season, and current recruiting efforts falling off of the charts. I've lost all confidence that the current coaching staff can "right the ship", and see that the only logical way out of this mess is a wholesale change in the leadership of the program. Coach Embree is a good man, and a great Buff. But he, and the staff he selected, have proven beyond a doubt that they are not able to carry on the proud tradition of the University of Colorado Buffaloes. I'm writing to implore you to carefully consider what is in the best interest of the University - both short and long term - and take decisive action quickly in order to prevent irrepairable damage to the football program and the university as a whole.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message, and for taking action in the best interests of my alma mater.

Nice email Liver. Well done. I particularly liked your discussion of how our entry into the Pac 12 should have been an awesome opportunity for us especially on the West Coast and Embree is ruining this once in a generation opportunity.

The other thing that people don't mention which is implied in your email is the impact this 7 year downfall has on future recruits who are 8, 10, 12 years old. Any young kids who are forming who their favourite team is, including those who live in Colorado are not going to grow up rooting for CU or wanting to play for them either.

Sent to all the addresses you provided Dio.

This is my last shot. I've contacted a number of you in the past individually but honestly I don't care enough anymore to write separate emails.

After suffering through arguably the worst football season in school history I am convinced of two things:
1) There is enough raw talent on that team to be competitive if well coached.
2) We (the fans and the admin) misinterpreted love of CU for coaching ability.

I have long believed one additional thing. That the regents and the administration of the school really don't understand the relationship between a successful football program and the success of the academic side of the institution.

I won't bother explaining that relationship to you, your obstinacy on the topic tells me it wouldn't do any good and I'm sure you have better access to the research than I do if you're interested.

But in a last ditch effort to prevent the pride and tradition of my Buffs from being entrusted to the timid and weak, Ill try to show you the relationship.

Until I believe our school is committed to putting a good product on the grid iron I will:
1) not renew my season tickets
2) not donate to the AD
3) not donate to the Leeds school
4) not purchase licensed merchandise
5) not buy BuffsTV
6) not be a vocal advocate for CU. You had no bigger cheerleader.

Hopefully a lot of other Buffs are doing the same thing. I know I will be encouraging them to.

This sucks and it's your fault. Fix the problem and I will come running back.

Go Buffs!

Sent an e-mail to my Regent. I honestly don't think she'll read it, and if she does, I'm even more skeptical that she'll do anything about it. I'm not very optimistic about this. The current leadership at CU has shown that it believes mediocrity (or worse) is acceptable.

When you think about it, we really shouldn't have to do this kind of thing. Leadership either strives for excellence or does not. They shouldn't have to be cajoled into it.

Agreed, but sadly the game of politics has to be played sometimes, and I think that politics are very much in play.

That is an excellent point.

I know you have enough on your plate and you don't need one more email in your inbox right now. I am going to make this one short and to the point. There are a whole lot of people who are so fed up with the state of the program that they are expressing their intentions to not renew their season tickets and to stop contributing to CU athletics and the university overall if Jon Embree is retained.

You have surely heard from some of them but you might find it interesting to view this thread on All Buffs where more than 15 people have reported their intention to stop supporting the program.

I honestly believe you have been a great AD for Colorado ushering in unprecedented improvements in some of the major sports including the men's basketball team as well as helping guide us to the conference of champions. Noone could fault you for hiring Hawkins who was one of the hottest commodities in all of college football that year.

Regardless of the rationale for hiring Embree, it is clear now that he is not up to the task.

Please do the right thing and restore the optimism and pride in CU.

She's the only regent to write me back. Granted, she sent me a form letter. But she's the only one to make that effort. And it was a decent response. And she responded to a lot of other people as well.

Send more.
