The best thing that will come from the Embree firing

The Admin will finally be held accountable by the media. Its about time time Benson Phil and Bohn are being asked the tough questions.

You are also seeing what they have to deal with with the ex players/coach. It's total bull****.

Maybe so but the media is being extremely harsh. It seems they are quite biased on this move. I don't really get it given their own polls show wide support for the firing and the statistics don't lie for themselves. Even if you thought he should have gotten another year it's hard for me to comprehend why so many people are outraged and pissing on Bohn for a move that 90%+ of ADs around the country would have also done.

Yeah, it's a bit too far towards the nepotism thing right now, at least on the radio stations with former players. They're making it sound 100% like it's Bohn's fault and 0% like it's Embree's.

I love the move but I also like to see the three stooges get criticized for not fully supporting the FB team. This will also keep them for going for the safest/cheapest route. I expect a big name hire.

Agree to an extent. If the Admin had stood up 2 years ago on the coach selection front and done what they are doing now, we would not be in this situation. Theyalso could have avoided this storm by being proactive and investing in the program during the last 2 years. I know that finances were an issue, but they played politics for too long and let the slide happen.

It seems that way, but "the media" that is on during the day and has had the chance to weigh in on this includes Klatt, CJ and Alfred. Three buddies of Embree's who were never going to give this thing a chance. Instead, they were going to have Embree on and let him attack the athletic department, spin his tenure as HC and play the victim, then bring Bohn on and go into full attack mode. Which is totally unprofessional, but standards for professionalism in sports talk radio have always been pretty flexible... Basically, they (and Mac) are all reacting as if they thought that the Embree hire meant that they had been given CU football as their own collective toy forever. And today we're seeing what happens when you take a toy away from somebody who is about to break it completely.

There are more rational voices out there, but right now they're getting shouted down pretty badly...

The best thing (I hope. Really, really hope.) is that this means the school administration is ready to take football seriously.

If there is no movement on facility upgrades then firing Embree makes no sense. If you're not willing to go find a legitimate coach with experience and pay the money to get him then firing Embree makes no sense.

The administration knew that this move would be explosive and widely criticized (even it is also widely applauded). You simply don't do that unless you are ready to really do something to make a difference.

Basically, it may not have cost a lot of money to fire Embree but if you do nothing substantive after taking this much heat and ponying for the buyout then you are beyond stupid.

Bohn and anyone involved with this program should be scrutinized....Yes Embree had failed over his 2 years with the Football program, but Bohn has failed over every year he's been involved with that same program, yet this place was 10X more upset with Embree over Bohn and most defend the AD

I just don't get that

Can we get Nik on this one some how. It seems his voice, which reflected a majority of us ABers was helpful. I think we need to defend Bohn on this and help rally the undecided and the silent. Bohn is going to need a lot of support to not only attract a coach but get the funding for facilities, etc.

The Admin doesnt need our support. We need to keep our upsetness until we start winning. Firing one coach and hiring another is not good enough.

Great points. I just watched the press conference, and it is a tough day to be a Buff. Tough questions were asked that deserved an answer. At the same time, I think Mike Bohn should have been ok with saying the results on the field were simply too much to ignore. He pretty much danced around the issue that was the elephant in the room. I know he didn't want to drag people through the mud, but the complete crap on the field is why we are here today.

The irony of this is that in SEC country, Mike Bohn would have been given a standing ovation for taking action. Here, the local media (non players) gets all touchy feely about this stuff.

I agree. We have come full circle. Did Hawk actually do something right (damn me for even suggesting this) in alienating these guys a bit? When we hired Embree we were all so excited to get everyone back in the fold, but man did we open a can of worms.

I do not understand the love fest with embree? and why the media and all the ex players jumping to his rescue? did they not watch the last two seasons unfold the way we did? where they watching the same team?
I will say this... I truly do not think we have to worry about embree going to another school and becoming a head coach and just really lighting things up, not in my lifetime at least.

I honestly don't either. I think it was simply politics, and those former players, like anybody else, are very competitive, and don't want to lose. Their guy was losing and losing big, and they are like a cornered animal clawing and scratching at anybody that says otherwise. I completely applaud McChesney for coming out with a critical voice when it would have been so easy to stay silent.

As others have said, all the new coach needs to do is win and they will shut up and fall in line. Winning cures all.

I suspect these guys hate being wrong as much as anything else.

Dave Logan was making me sick yesterday afternoon and Dave Kreiger (however it is spelled) was awesome playing devils advocate

The problem is they have blind faith and no objectivity on the situation.

Bunch of things at play.

One is that he is an ex-Buff from the glory days, the other ex-players have a teammate mentality and are in the bunker with him. It helps him that he has been very active with B4L and isn't just an ex-teammate but also personal friends with a lot of these guys. Remember that Big Al's best friend is on the staff as well and lots of these guys are friends with EB as well.

Secondly is that he can be a truly likable guy. Off air he gets along well with a lot of the media and after the BS with Hawkins and even the stand-offishness of GB he was a breath of fresh air for them. Being a Colorado kid he goes way back with a lot of them.

Thirdly a lot of the media is flat out lazy. They don't care about CU and the train wreck going on up there made their jobs very easy. It's always easier to find a story in disaster than in good times.

Fourth I think a lot of them are chickens**t about the race issue. Nobody wants to admit the truth because they risk getting labelled as picking on the black guy. Nobody questions that it is harder for a black coach to get the opportunity to be a head coach, the numbers prove it. At the same time things like this will only make it harder for other black coaches to advance because schools are going to be hesitant to hire somebody they can't hold accountable.

I think the biggest mistake Bohn made yesterday was trying to be classy. He didn't want to slam Embree, he didn't want to burn bridges, and he persisted in being conciliatory even when it was obvious that the childish faction of former players in the media had left all class at the doorstep.

I appreciate that Bohn tried to take the high road. But at some point in the presser he should have just said what we all knew. Embree failed. Hard. He talked about trajectory and measureables, but he didn't specifically say that the on-the-field product was historically craptacular, that we were losing millions in ticket and concessions sales, that recruiting was cratering.

I'm glad that he didn't address the players that were obviously doing their best to make his life harder in the presser. I wouldn't have been so composed I don't believe. They would have probably heard about their role in this.

I do agree that it would be nice if Benson, DiStefano and Bohn would remain open and accountable to the media after this, but I don't buy that this is permanent. Bohn will probably remain as accessible as he's been, but I expect Phil and Bruce to climb back into their ivory towers and ignore everything very soon. What we saw yesterday was the acknowledgement by the administration that this program is at the edge of a precipice and requires drastic action. That does not mean in any way that once they have done what they feel is their best in rectifying the situation, that they will remain involved or accessible.

agree 100%... highschool teams in texas have better facilities than the buffs!... the first time my dad was up at oregon he thought the practice facility was autzen
