Overall Mike Bohn has been good for CU Sports.

I don't agree with all of the negativity toward Bohn.

Under his watch we hired two football coaches that did not work out, but they weren't obvious mistakes at the time.

Hawkins did not work out, but when we hired him he was the top coaching prospect in the country and we got him (Unfortunately in hindsight).
When Hawkins contract was extended, we had just played Bama tough, Upset OU and brought in a top recruiting class.

Embree and staff did not work out, probably for lack of experience at HC, OC and DC, certainly not effort or passion. I agreed with giving John Embree and Bieniemy a shot, figuring their passion, recruiting and loyalty could overcome their lack of experience. The staff, individually looked great too.
Two years was not enough time to expect the team to be winning. But, it was enough time to know that this staff was not going to work out. They did many things right and set the table for the next coach. But, to get back to being a top team again, we need a coaching staff that is an advantage on game day. Unfortunately, there were no signs that they could out-coach our opponents. We all wanted this staff to succeed, so it was a tough call to look for a new HC, but it is the right call. Especially, if we have more money available to bring in the right guy. Don't people want that?

Also, under Bohn's watch, mainly working with a smaller budget and less support then most the big programs, we have added:

Practice Bubble.
Locker room upgrades.
Basketball/Volley facility.
New Soccer Field.
We are inline for a major facility upgrade.

Joined the PAC 12.

Hired:
Linda Lappe.
Jeff Bzdelik
and Tad Boyle. Tad Boyle is proving to be an awesome hire.

He has made mistakes, but overall you have to recognize he has CU moving in the right direction.

I have to agree... plus he has been handcuffed by an administration & culture that doesn't put much emphasis or resources behind athletics.

I will give him credit for finding a way to somehow keep his position in the face of failure after failure. Basketball is nice, and I love watching the Buffs, but basketball is nothing more than a distraction between football seasons.

He’s more interested in being a mouthpiece for the administration than he is being an advocate for the coaches and players that represent him.

He speaks with a forked-tounge.

Don't mean to burst your BUBBLE, but even CSU has a permanent indoor practicing facility. I still like Bohn, but we're way behind most other PAC schools.

What it really comes down to with Bohn is that all of the things besides football are wonderful and all, but if football fails they don't really matter.

If someone comes in as Microsoft CEO and does a lot of nice things with Bing, Xbox and other projects but the software business drops to last in market share, that CEO was a failure.

This is the position Mike Bohn is in with the CU athletic department. He gets one more chance to get football performing or he has failed as AD and needs to be replaced.

I think Bohn is holding out for enough money to build the full 100 yards, though...

Still, you're exactly right about where we are on facilities. Hopefully we're getting very close to an announcement about cutting into that gap....

Well they ARE his boss... doesn't he have to? Should he say **** them and just advocate for the coaches and players even if it may cost him his job?

Is this completely his fault? If the funds and support aren't there they are there. Look I hate sounding like a Bohn apologist, and I know results are all that matters (Embo knows too), but I feel the lack of facilities, being a talking piece for the admin, etc... is what would happen no matter who the AD is. I think the biggest factor in our late 80's - 90's success was Gordon Gee, when he left the culture changed. Until we get a Prez who is supportive and understands the benefits of a strong football program, it is hard to blame the AD. Sports where support and resources aren't quite as important Bohn has excelled in... I think that speaks more to the job he is doing than anything else.

Smart man....almost an exact analogy that I've been using when speaking with anyone pimping Bohn as doing a terrific job and not fair to be receiving any flak.... :smile2:

Agree with the post. It's frustrating to watch the #1 sport struggle for so long under his tenure, but he's done lots right in other areas IMO. Get the FB turned around and facilities upgrade and he'll go down as one of the best at CU.

I'd also add the creation of the CMO position; I thought that was rather innovative.

He'd be Bill Marolt caliber IF football had not been so bad.

Accomplishments;

Entry to the Pac 12
Basketball Improvement
Non Football Facilities Improvements
Replaced non football coaches successfully

Don't mean to burst YOUR BUBBLE, but CS-Ewe has centi-millionairess Pat Stryker writing big checks to the AD in Ft Fun.

With the TABOR Amendment in Colorado, you're not going to see the State legislature provide ANY support to the AD. Gotta do it through sugar daddies and sugar mommas! So just put your John Han**** on a seven figure donation to the CU AD! George Boedecker did, (after substantial schmoozing by Bohn) that's why CU has a BB practice facility.

I agree Football is king. This next hire will decide if he is a success or not.
But it is hard to tell how much Bohn pushes the Administration behind the scenes as an advocate for the football team. My guess is he does. He played football (along with baseball at KU), plus he knows he is judged by the football teams win loss record. Gary Barnett is right, CU football can be great, but you have to work within the limitations here. Bohn has to work within those limitations.

Great points however I wouldn't give Bohn too much credit for the PAC 12 move. Larry Scott is who wanted the Denver TV market for the TV deal.

I'd rather have the bubble which is heated and has a full size practice field as opposed to the craptacular 70 yard indoor facility that the rammies have.
