Benson Going on Record

The thing that has been frustrating with Benson is that he is pretty damn good at raising money. We just need in him to devote a portion of those efforts to the AD.

Solid. Encouraging. Hopeful.

What the f is going on? Night is day, day is night. President cares about football. CU football is making a come back? Christmas came early this year.

I think the most refreshing thing is that he is actually using some of the rhetoric that we've been repeating here for a couple years.

"Football is the window to the university, and I can't stress that over and over enough,"
"I want us to be the very best at everything and that absolutely includes athletics"
"how do we leverage what we have and one of the best answers is football. It gets people excited and when people get excited they contribute more — not only to athletics, but everywhere."

And in the joint statement that issued Sunday night:
"We strive for excellence in all we do, and the university leadership is committed to doing everything we can to ensure success for our football program, for which we are accountable."

These things make me think they actually may be listening to us. If the words continue to be backed by actions - hiring an exciting coach, getting a new IPF, actually upgrading Folsom - things will really be looking up.

They have to had noticed the basketball model of build it and they will come.

Strange parallels:

Patton - Bzdelick - Boyle

Patton: MBB in disarray, acrimonious departure
Bzdelick: MBB commits to facilities and legit coach
Boyle: MBB hires smart coach and is a top 25 team

Embree - Next FB HC - FB HC after that

Embree: Football in disarray, acrimonious departure
Next FB HC: Football commits to facilities and legit coach
FB HC after that: Football hires smart coach and is ranked

Would much prefer to jump to the Boyle hire rather than go through a Bzdelik disaster to just get facilities.

Nice analogy but I am stupidly optimistic enough to hope that our next coach (not the one after that) can take us back to a bowl and to being ranked (maybe not top 10 but w/i 4-5 years ranked).

100% agree. Prefer not going through 2 coaches to get ranked. Absolutely.

Based on what Bohn said, they want a big name in here to get donors excited and get money flowing. At least that's what it sounded like to me. Wouldn't be surprised to see a big name come in, and leave eventually only to have a Boyle type take the reigns.

fifm and hopefully how everyone else hopes to see it play out.

Honestly, would The President take this stance if Mac, Klatt, Big Al etc... weren't all up in his ass?

Probably not but I like it. Shows that you support the decision you made and are sticking by your guns despite the scrutiny.

I think Gold's scenario is the much more realistic one to shoot for. CU football is a train wreck right now; Boyle did not take over a train wreck.

And I just do not understand how anyone can call Bzdelik's tenure a disaster. He absolutely laid the foundation for the turnaround. Don't forget - we didn't fire him; he was hired away by another school. And this happened because his teams were showing demonstrable success. Had he stuck around, I'm sure his teams would have continued to improve. Now I don't think he was capable of taking us where Boyle has, but overall I view Bzdelik's time here as a positive.

I'd be perfectly fine with it if our next football coach winds up getting hired by a "bigger name" program a few years down the road. Because that will mean he's doing well!

Is it ok if I'm fine with this?? Just get someone that can immediately get us to bowl games (Kent State is top 25 for f**k sake), get some kids interested, not totally embarrass us, get some facilities, and move on. Then pull in a coach that wants to improve on the situation and stay for a while.

I'm at the point where I don't give a **** if the coach bails in a year or two. Get us respectable again goddammit.

Count me in as skeptical. When I see actions, not words, I'll be grateful.

As for B4L, this is nothing more than a by-product of their campaign. They want blood, they're not getting it, and they probably could care less about what Benson is saying, unless he's saying he's firing Bohn.
