I think it might be time to get Butch Jones on the candidate profile list above....

I bet he is Purdue bound if he leaves Cincy.

His buyout is high and you would likely have to pay him the full $2.5 million. No recruiting ties for a PAC-12 head coach either.

The only thing missing from his resume is Brian Kelly rebuilding CU first, then leaving so he can take over the finished product.

Uh, his record the year AFTER Kelly left was 4-8. He then seems to have re-built/re-tooled from there to 10-3 in '11 and 8-3 this year, with one to go.

You hire asst. coachs to recruit the Pac 12 areas, the HC is just a "closer" anyway.

My concern here is he's never really had to face a rebuilding job as a HC, although he did a nice job of reloading Cincinnati after they lost a ton of pieces from that amazing '09 season they had under Kelly. Still, I could get on board with this.

I don't get the excitement for this guy. BK leaves Cincy after 3 straight double digit win years and this guy promptly goes 4-8. He started to do good again, but I fail to see what's so impressive. Compared to a guy like Anderson or MacIntyre.. give me those guys every time.

He currently makes $1.575 mill, wouldn't Cinci be able to match an offer? King of the Big East or rebuild in the Pac or Big Ten? I do like the idea though.

to be fair, BK's last year there had a HUGE senior class. Cinci was hurting big time after they left.

Being King of the Big East isn't going to be something to brag about here soon.

Sounds like we need to Bump this thread.

We still don't have a profile on him and I am on may way to work so no time to do it. I share everyone's optimism and concerns about him. Got to study him more and like to see him in action this weekend too.

Well, while on my train route to work today I have had a chance to do a mini deep dive on him and I am warming up to him. What I like:

-Numerous sources say he is a very high integrity guy, his team had best academics in Big East-good fit for CU
-He's a winner (49-27)
-He's coached under Rich Rod and Brian Kelly
-He's spent several years as a HC (which I know is a criteria for Bohn and with good reason)
-He runs what he calls a hurry-up spread w/ some pro elements which would be awesome at altitude

About the only 2 concerns I have
-Not sure he is a turnaround specialist b/c all his experience has been following BK
-No experience in Pac 12 footprint.

But seems like a good fit if we can get him. Supposedly he is getting a lot of interest from Purdue and others so he's in demand (Unlike our last hire). He probably is looking to move up to BCS b/c his salary is around 1.2 or so and UC got rebuffed on their move to the ACC.

Go get him Bohn!

Has he even been contacted or he is still just someone you want? Still yet to see anything connecting Jones to Colorado. I've really only seen him connected to the Purdue job (he is their #1 guy) and at times for the Tennessee job.

Jones is a good coach but he is a Midwestern guy with no Pac-12 ties.

I see the Butch Jones info is coming from Woody Paige. Just read his article about Butch Jones and Bronco Mendenhall.

Personally between the two I would take Mendenhall!
