2 names I wish they would consider

James Franklin - Vandy, and Pat Fitzgerald - NW.

Someone please explain, I would love either of them. They both have had success in big-time conferences at schools that have academic standards.

What am I missing? I would think that if CU was willing to go after Smart, Strong and Jones, the aforementioned two would be in the same ballpark.

Pretty quiet today - this is driving me nuts.

Go Buffs!

I doubt that Fitz will leave NW unless someone breaks the bank. He is a NW Alum and was hand picked after the death of Randy Walker.
Franklin on the other hand seems to be happy at Vandy right now anyways.

As EC had said....... With the passing of coach Walker, and Fitz being hand picked for the job, he would not leave with any amount money offered to him IMO. I have heard Franklin name kicked around some......

Being Vandy is private they do not have to release the details of his contract but it has been reported as being about 3 mil right now. Doubt we could get him to take a cut.

Both of those guys have every reason to be extremely happy in their current situations. Excellent coaches, so you'd want to hear from their agents and make sure there wouldn't be interest. But I just have a hard time seeing either one happening.

If we're going down this path, may as well put a feeler out to Mike Riley too.

Fitzgerald is at the top of the list for me. He's shown that he can recruit to a school with some academic restrictions for admission, and has won in a BCS conference. However, I think he's pretty happy in his position at his alma mater, although he was at CU for a quick stint under Barnett. I guess we could give him a decent raise.

I don't expect his name to even be floated, but I'd be happy if he ended up here.

CU has no distinct advantage for those two. Both schools are in BCS power conferences so the prestige is the same. Their schools would match what CU offers. Fitzgerald has a 10 year contract at about $2 million per year (8 years left) with a hefty buyout. He turned down Michigan 2 years ago and they were offering $2.5 million with incentives to $3Million. He has said he wants to be a Northwestern lifer - straight from his mouth.

Riley would be awesome.

And with his history, it being his alma mater, replacing Walker, etc., I think he actually has more credibility with that line that most coaches that use it. At the very least, I think it will take one hell of an opportunity to get him to leave.

I would kill to get Franklin here. But if he was seriously available, he would probably be at the top of every single list for every school with an opening. The fact that none of the schools seem to be really going after him tells me that he's probably not on the market...
