12/3 Update: Start on Post 52 (link) for news coming in as of Monday, December 3, 2012.

Hey all; last year we did a thread where we compiled all the wild rumors about our coaching search into one place. Basically, it was a timeline thread, not a discussion thread. I think we have enough of those! This year, since it appears this may drag on a bit, we are going to do it again.

General rules of the thread:

  1. Take everything with a large grain of salt, and a shot of whiskey. All, none, or some of the information is probably false.
  2. Generally, "privileged" info is not to be posted until it is outside of 24 hours OR confirmed by other sources.
  3. Random Internet Posters, "Respected" or not, and their info are fair game for posting. A request from that person, however, will be honored.
  4. A Respected Random Internet Poster is usually a message board poster that is known for posting scoop.
  5. We try to source everything. We aren't perfect. Shocking, I know.

People of Public Interest:

  • Reed Marks - Radio Personality tied in with the program. He's on twitter.
  • Adam Munsterteiger - Rivals/Buffstampede.com head honcho. He's got great sources and is on twitter.
  • 247 - another CU website.
  • Kyle Ringo - CU beat writer for the BDC - also on twitter. - he's pissed me off, so no link.

Rumors:

At the time of the original post, we've heard the following (no sources; too many for old info):

  • Fresno State Head Coach DeRuyter called CU about the job and expressed interest - no word on what's going on here.
  • Former Kansas Coach Mark Mangino expressed interest in the CU job, but was told no and then asked his name be withdrawn. Rumors swirl he's an OC possibility.
  • Colorado School of Mines Head Coach Bob Stitt is interested in our OC position - but not being considered as a head coach. His candidacy for that appears to have faded over the past few days. No real idea what is happening here.
  • Despite a rumor to that effect, former Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino was never under consideration by CU.
  • CU went after USU head coach Andersen - He said no at an early stage. prior to $ being discussed.
  • CU has discussed numbers with Louisville HC Charlie Strong - he has listened to numbers as high as 3.2 million/year for five years. However, numerous internet personalities have doused those hopes. But, at this time, there has been no official denial by Strong or CU as to this possibility.
  • CU is interested in BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhal. No other info at this time.
  • CU has been granted permission to talk to Cincinnati Head Coach Butch Jones, and want him to come in for an interview on Monday. However, rumors are swirling that he may already have accepted an offer from Purdue (and others are saying he has not). Reed Marks is saying he will meet with Purdue on Sunday.

Other names of interest:
  • Miami Head Coach Al Golden
  • NIU Head Coach Dave Dorean
  • SJSU Head Coach Mike MacIntyre
  • Miss. St. head Coach Dan Mullen
  • Jim Grobe.

Random Other Stuff:

Rivals, and then 247, have both reported that nike is working on new uniforms for CU next year that will include matte black.

Allbuffs' very own Team Kisima told us today that Kanavis McGhee is flying out to meet with Kisima Jagne, a greyshirt for CU and key recruit.

Some random internet posters on allbuffs (source if you want) are saying former coach Jon Embree may be meeting with the team today, and believe it will be on campus.

Does the "strong interest in Petrino" rumor from Lombardi the other day even have enough credibility to be mentioned in the "rumors" category?

www.coachingsearch.com is a pretty good site to routinely check. It gives updates on all active coaching searches, in addition to CU.
From the link...
The Daily Camera, which has reported accurate information on the Colorado coaching search, is reporting the Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall, Utah State head coach Gary Anderson, and San Jose State head coach Mike MacIntyre are indeed candidates for the Colorado head coaching job.

BUTCH JONES TWITTER SCOOOOOOOOOOOP

Friday, November 30th - 2pm MT

Ok, so ... according to a radio talk host in Cincy he´s taken the Purdue job and is gonna be announced on Monday ... however, the editor of a Michigan State magazine, who claims to be a friend, says he hasn´t accepted and wouldn´t do anything until after the season. Reed Marks says he´ll meet with Purdue on Sunday, one day before he´s supposed to be in Boulder.

FWI(isn't)W... Friend of a friend of a mormon friend kind of thing who "knows him" says that BYU coach isn't going anywhere.

Kyle Ringo says:
Sources say CU plans to interview Butch Jones early next week. #CUBuffs also interested in Dan Mullen and Jim Grobe
and Reed chimed in:
RT @reedmarks I have had contact w/ members of the MSU staff in the last few days...they have some ties to #CU

Yes, that's Dan Mullen's Mississippi State that he's talking about.

MT @CFTalk: Release: Gary Andersen announces he will remain at Utah State as its HC

Rumors were true!

Also, self declared ex buff Coach Mac is crazy now :sad1:

Neeeeeeeeeed Al Golden! Anybody who can resurrect Temple from the dead belongs in Boulder!

Miami a**-raped him ! He's looking hard at options.

Last night, patr, a respected random internet poster at rivals, said that our coach would be known in a couple of weeks and that donors were "building the kitty" to get our guy. Among other things. I'm keeping an eye out for stuff that connects CU to Golden. He's on the list for sure! There are rumblings!

Don't toy with my emotions.

A couple more weeks? I was really hoping the process would be able to move a bit faster than that.

coachingsearch.com reporting that Purdue may be reaching out to Willie Taggart of Western Kentucky. If true, certainly does not sound like they are as confident about getting Jones as it once appeared. Same site also assuring Miss State fans not to lose sleep over the fact that we may be interested in Mullen.

2 respected twitter users, one works for MHS the other for Rivals, have apparently heard the rumor Butch Jones has taken the Purdue job.

Anybody else getting the sinking feeling we are furked?

Tedford, supposedly target #1...NO

Strong, supposedly offered a boatload of cash...NO

Jones, would rather be in West Lafayette...NO

Anderson, would rather stay in Mormon land...NO

Doeren, interviewing with NCST, rumored to have accepted the job.

Les Miles leverages a CU phone call into millions of dollars...NO

Dykes?

Al Golden? Heard the name but that is about it.

DeRuyter?

At this rate we might be applauding Dave Logan.....

No reason to panic yet...

Tedford wasn't going to take any HC job. He got a $7 million buyout from Cal. If he took another HC job, the salary earned at the new school would be deducted from Cal buyout, essentially he's an intern working for free. No point to take a HC gig.

Strong was never a possibility imo. He should be in line for Arky, Tenn, Auburn offers if desired.

Jones is still TBD, possibly interviewing Monday

Anderson said No to every school, he's not interested in leaving.

Doeren interviewed, got a good offer and took it. We obviously did not express interest or request an interview, as he wouldn't have accepted on the spot if he had other offers.

Miles? no shot. Played Arky for a raise.

Dykes was rumored at NCState, and is still in play. Solid option with BigXII, Pac12 ties.

Golden has been an east coast guy, that seems pretty adamant he isn't leaving. Never considered him as an option.

DeRuyter is interested and could still be an option.

No news on MacIntyre yet either, although he has stated he hasn't heard from schools (likely a cover).

I think you are forgetting we just fired the worst coach in CU history, and any of the above would be a tremendous upgrade for 2013. It's still early, losing Doeren stings, but still a ton of candidates out there. Reed Marks mentions that CU has a target in mind with HC experience. Until proven otherwise I'm not going to freak out over a week of rumors (with some coaches wrapping up games this weekend). Enjoy the rumor mill, CU will come out in far better shape for 2013 than the past two years. It's great to be a Buff!

Darth as you mentioned, here's the writer's tweet:

Purdue fb reportedly has been turned down by Butch Jones and Dave Doeren. Stop embarrassing yourself and hire the right guy.

Not sure what to make of it. Others on twitter believe it may just be a smokescreen...

a few minutes later, he tweeted again:

@therailroadtie according to Denver Post he's turned Purdue down. Not sure they write that if it's inaccurate.

We really have no clue if Jones has turned down Purdue yet or not. Only thing of report is coming from the DP. On top of that Jones is coaching right now.

Right now I would keep my eye on the Jones situation... DeRuyter and MacIntyre are probably legit options. After tomorrow we will have a much better idea with the regular season wrapped up. There are other coaches out there like Dykes that could be a option but he is going to get his pick down south (SEC/ACC) or in the Big XII. Basically I would keep my eye on coaches from the West or at worst from the Midwest.

Re: Official 2012 Colorado Coach Search Rumor Compendium - Updated Reguarly

I kinda like McIntyre. He could start the rebuilding.

BC's goin' big:
Boston College:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, Tampa Bay Bucs offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan, New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., and New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride have all expressed interest in the Boston College head coaching job.
