Current job: Head Coach at University of Miami (2011-present)

6-6 record in 2011
7-5 record in 2012

Rivals recruiting ranks
2011 transitional recruiting class: #36
2012 class: #9
2013 class (so far): #56 (only 10 commits, with 5 being 4* prospects)

2006-2010: Head Coach at Temple University

1-11 record in 2006 (Temple had been booted from Big East and was independent that season)
4-8 record in 2007 (MAC conference)
5-7 record in 2008
8-4 record in 2009
7-4 record in 2010

2001-2005: Defensive Coordinator at the University of Virginia

- When hired, was the youngest DC in the nation. Turned a defense ranked in the 100s into a top 20 squad.

Previous Experience
2000: Penn State LB Coach
1997-99: Boston College LB Coach
1994-96: Vigginia GA (LBs & Special Teams)

Current Contract: $2 million per year through 2019, including a hefty buyout

Why he might leave Miami: NCAA violations occurred before he was there. Allegedly, he was misled about them until after he had accepted the job. After Miami self-imposed a bowl ban in 2011, he was assured that Miami would not self-impose additional penalties over these old incidents. Miami just self-imposed a 2012 bowl ban a few weeks ago. Conventional wisdom is that the NCAA hammer is about to drop and this would free Golden of the buyout clauses in his contract.

Why he might not choose Colorado: There are some big dogs that are interested in him. Also, Boston College is making a play and he has a relationship there from his first BCS coaching job.

I'm lukewarm on this guy. He's never really won very big. The furthest west he's ever been as a coach was when he was at Penn State?

Meh.

He is the best option of any name we've heard thus far, imo

Legit coordinator experience? Check
great recruiter? Check
took a program from nothing to something? check

His records at Miami have been just satisfactory. However, upon further inspection, they have lost a lot of close games.

2011: lost by 4 vs KSU, 3 vs VT, 4 vs FSU. The other 3 losses were by 7 or 8 points each.
2012: got steamrolled by KSU and ND. Lost by 4 to North Carolina and 1 vs Virginia.

I'd prefer he won those close games, but there's a reason why he *might* be available to us. If he won them all, no way would we have a chance.

He's by far the best we could do imo.

Is there anything to suggest he's interested in Colorado specifically? I've heard him linked to the TN search, but I can't find anything to say that he's remotely interested in heading west...that having been said, if he is interested, I think he'd be great for us...

Read on Rivals (think it was there) that he sees CU as a gold mine

There isn't much - really everyone is operating off a comment that Golden said awhile ago (as Tini noted) that CU is a gold mine

I have been hoping that Bohn has been working the back channels and he would be the surprise hire. Would love to have him follow up on his comments about Colorado in the past. Very positive comments about Colorado.

Would really be interesting to see what type of staff he put together at CU. You gotta think there is a decent chance Brennan Carroll would follow him here to be a position coach/recruiting coordinator.

Apparently Miami has their version of Cabral in Art Kehoe. He has been there since 1981, except for a short stint recently at Ole Miss. I bet that guy has seen some **** in his time.

Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPNRT @CharlesRobinson: Reports Miami will receive notice of allegations in "few days" incorrect. Sources said January at earliest

This probably ends all talk of Golden. No sanctions, no waived buyout.

Maimi's recruiting has got to have some pretty awkward conversations right now. They're lucky they've got swag.

How hefty is the buyout? If Miami knows they're likely to get hit with sanctions that will allow Golden to get out of the contract, it's likely negotiable at this point. Golden pays something to get out of Dodge, but Miami realizes they should take what they can get now rather than nothing in a month or a year.

He's under contract at $2 mil per year until 2020, I believe.
