BOULDER - University of Colorado women's soccer player Amy Barczuk was named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's All-Pacific Region third-team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

"We are very pleased that Amy was recognized by the NSCAA," CU head coach Danny Sanchez said. "She had a great senior season and was a dominate player in that back and in the midfield for us."

Barczuk, the 2012 captain from Centennial, Colo., caps a stellar career at Colorado with numerous post-season honors. In her final season as a Buff, she was also named to the All-Pac-12 Conference second-team and was a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

Barczuk is one of just four Buffs (joining Fran and Laura Munnelly and Melissa Cartmell) to have played in all of her team's games spanning a four-year career. She holds the ninth and 12th spots in the CU record books with 76 games started of 78 games played and ranks sixth in minutes. With 124 shots attempted in her career, she holds down the 11th all-time spot at CU.

Barczuk is the twelfth Buff to earn All-Region honors, and the first since 2009 (in the Central Region) and the team's move to the Pac-12 and the Pacific Region.

Would have been great to have her back for next year.

CM - how does the returning roster look?

CM - how does the returning roster look?

Fortunately she is one of only have 5 seniors on the roster with goalie Kayla Millar, forward Erin Bricker, defender Lauren Shaner, and midfielder Shaye Marshall. Amy is a big loss as our second leading scorer, Millar was a backup, Bricker oinly managed 1 shot in 11 games, and Shaner is definitely a loss as a starter. So, we lose a couple of important players but all in all not too many ilosses. I would expect that the new players on the roster from last year and this year should be able to make up for it and we should be better next year. Coach Danny Sanchez going into his second year definitely has the Buffs headed in the right direction.
