Can we get a thread about Kingsbury?

I like him a lot. He's young, but coaching stars start somewhere, and he had a hell of a year. He had a great QB to tailor an offense for, but definitely knew what to do with him.

I remember him from his playing days but honestly knew nothing about his coaching escapades. Article is impressive. At first I thought he may be too much of a position coach (QB) as opposed to an OC at A&M but sounds like he is responsible for running the offense.

After the terrible game day adjustments made w/ Watter Bottle & Co. I liked this quote:
One former colleague of Kingsbury's raved about the young coach's ability to craft game plans and even tweak routes depending on certain weaknesses he had unearthed in his film study. Kingsbury's eye for that was honed from his time with the Patriots.

Still think he may be too young and inexperienced to take on the CU project. But he's worth consideration. Seems to have major upside.

I can't hear Kingsbury's name without immediately thinking of Tyler Brayton dominating him at Folsom back in the day.

This is Embree's ultimate failure in my opinion. We can't take a chance on an innovative, young, and possibly cheap replacement because the infrastructure of the football program is so poor. We need someone with experience as a CEO/Head Coach just to get our program operating at an acceptable D1 level.

If I were Bohn, I'd seriously consider a new structure with a Football AD. He'll never do that because of the erosion of his authority, but honestly, you could grab any number of older NFL/College types that are out of the game and they could get our operations streamlined in a matter of years. That allows your coaching pool to open up dramatically, which increases competition, and ultimately gives you better understanding of a candidates potential for success.

I love Klingsbury as an idea, but I think there are many other coordinators worth a look as well.

Why does age matter? Dude can coach and is a rising star. Hell, I like the Solich idea. Dude is old, but he can coach.

A star on the rise. It would be great to get him. Side benefit, hurts the aggies, who are probably the most annoying fan base in the world.

He has all the potential that Embree does, too. Oh yeah. But why not go after more experienced coords? Would he bring a QB with only 3 years left with him because, remember, he didn't successfully recruit his today's star - someone else refused to offer so Kliff received his gift by default, not first choice.

I would be all for Kliff and he was even being mentioned in the UT conversation as a possible option.

The issue being his inexperience but for CU if you want a rising star you strike now. In another year or two you will not be able to afford/get him because the big schools will be circling.

His upside is tremendous and would have the strongest recruiting ties to Texas that we have had in years.

Texas will steal a coach from somewhere else. I wouldn't be surprised to see Saban go there.

The age comment by me was more to highlight his lack of experience. There are so many more responsibilities for a head coach than a coordinator. It takes a different kind of leader which, I believe, most often needs experience. To sound Hawkish, he needs more coach and life experience.

UT as in Tenn.

And I would be very shocked to see Saban leave Alabama unless it is back to the NFL.

I wouldn't at all. He had a cushy job in a prime recruiting hotbed at LSU and left them easily. Then left the phins high and dry. Look how competitive the SEC is getting it is stacked with coaches and win at all costs schools. They were almost shut out of the national championship this year. Seeing them knock each other off every year is not a stretch. And when thst hsppens the sec fans get restless and start thinking he had lost it. Texas has the funds and determination to take Saban away and in just as good a recruiting area, and a conferance that is respectable but he could still dominate it without having to worry about Florida SoCar Aub Ark aTm LSU chipping into their wins.

Alabama would match any money Texas offers.

And it would look like running from the SEC. He may leave but it would be to the NFL again. He probably wants to succeed there before calling it a career.

I've warmed up to this guy. He's young, but he brings an offense that will be very good pretty quickly.

I did some reading up and Sumlin made a really key hire that boosted his career. Not that Sumlin wasn't a good offensive coach, but he proved to be a smart guy when he went and hired Dana Holgorsen away from aTm in 2008. This set the stage as Houston then had a prolific offense. Dana left for Okie State after two years, but Sumlin was bright enough to promote from within the bright and young Kliff.

Kliff could do some damage if he could find an experienced DC like Sumlin - and he'd have some budget. Kliff and his understudy OC wouldn't demand a fortune.

He sounds like an impressive guy and he's worth an interview.

Of course if Bob Stitt is just as smart, then I'd be more in favor of a defensive HC that is proven at some level, and an OC like Stitt.
