The "emcee" at the games needs to go

The whole concept of an emcee (im not talking about the PA announcer) and this guy specifically are terrible. It comes off as being stupid, annoying, and amateurish.

"alright buffs fans, i know you like free food! get on your feet and i'll give the loudest fan a $25 mcdonalds gift card!"

13 year old boys lose their ****ing minds.

He tried his hardest to suck the energy out of the keg last night. Agreed he sucks, stop telling me to stand up!

Is he the chief marketing guy we hired. I know that type of thing wouldn't be outside the realm of his responsibilities.

He has a completely undesirable task. I'm not sure if there is a better option.

The worst part is his biggest hype is the "Stand up and help us spell Colorado", chant/cheer/fight song opener. Can't we just do another Tuba cheer instead.

BTW props to the Tuba Woman in high heels. IMO Early leader in the clubhouse for Tuba Player of the Year, or is that MVT?

Is this a guy who does the little side shows that they do during time outs, commercial breaks, and that sort of thing?

I am pretty sure most schools have this sort of thing now - it is modeled after NBA teams and the things they do to "entertain" the crowd during breaks in the action.

Can BuffTuba give us insight on whether there has been a longstanding TPILTF among the insiders? Also, do Tuba Players receive a pet unicorn at graduation?

It's usually mostly dudes in the section, so no. All I received at graduation was a lame degree.

BTW, I am continually amazed by her ability to spin in heels. All apologies to my old roommate Jen, but it kicks the **** out of doing the splits.

Outside of the band the entire in-game experience needs some work. The C-O-L-O-R-A-D-O cheer is terrible. I know this isn't a fair comparison, but the Nuggets have the in-game experience down. The "t's for 3's", Rocky and the cheerleaders choreographed dance routines are all pretty good and bring entertainment to those that may not be huge basketball fans. There are so many TV and coach timeouts this wouldn't be hard to improve with a little work.

Yep. I've seen them popping up at various college basketball venues I've been to over the last few years. It's hardly just CU.

It is a basketball game... these people shouldn't be catered to. Hell they shouldn't be at the game.

Whoever plans the game entertainment at Illinois, took an entirely different approach and had the fans going for the entire game. They use the video boards, not an announcer telling them what to do. They also have more students at their games. I know a close game keeps fans involved, but Illinois has it figured out. Their 1500 people sounded and acted much louder than 1500 people in the keg. Cheerleaders were leading cheers during action. I think at CU this would have to be done at the end of the court where the players enter. Illinois also uses the huge flags. We fans bought CU a flag for the women years ago and are told they don't know where it is. They lead the team in with it and then run up to the main concourse, then around the concourse. Also did a cheer doing this during a timeout.

Our cheerleaders suck big time and could learn from other schools.

Illinois doesn't even have that great of a record and the crowd was loud!

Also when the shirts or whatever are thrown in to the stands, throw them to both sides of the arena. They only throw them to one side now. I don't mind that they throw to little kids, but spread it around the arena.

That just isn't realistic. There are a lot of people that come to the games where basketball isn't the first reason (think kids and spouses). The idea is to make it as entertaining of environment as possible. Would you rather have a half full CEC with only people who really care about the basketball game or a full stadium of people having a good time? It is hard enough to get people to come to sporting events in this day and age when the experience can be just as good at home.

I highly recommend watching this video if you have some time. Mark Cuban, Bill Simmons and a few others are on a panel discussing ways to make the fan experience better and to attract people to the games in the days of 60in HDTV's.
