Would This Ever Happen.......Barney part deux ??

So there seems to be a lot of positive mentions in the twitterverse about bringing Barnett back today. Lots of past players, non B4L type players I mean. Is there any scenario under the sun that this could happen? I have to say, we could do a lot worse. He has had success here, he knows what he is in for, he is not coaching, etc....

I didn't like the way he was let go 7 years ago and frankly I would have loved to keep him despite a couple of bad losses. We were going to bowls and we were in most every game and beating who we are supposed to beat. maybe bring him in and hire a head coach in waiting type of thing. I am just throwing it out there, but as I have said many times, I would give my left arm for 6-6 or 7-5 seasons right now.

Make fun of me if you will.....

Not gonna happen.

The last thing anybody at CU wants or needs is to bring discussion of the "scandal" back to the front page.

No way do we go back to the past and even more so, no way does Bohn go back and rehire the guy he fired 7 years ago.

I'll definitely make fun of you. This is ****ing horrible.

youd be surprised... there is a movement and an attempt at revisionist history going on by some people trying to make this happen... but as i said above the game has passed him by

I think Barnett would be great but I don't think he'd come back to us. A friend of mine met him a couple years back and I guess he was still pretty upset about the lack of administration support for the program (don't think it's gotten any better since) and the way he got canned by Bohn (although he admitted he probably shouldn't have called the girl kicker awful).

Unless Bohn is gone, I don't see this happening. There's probably a better chance we'd bring back Slick Rick, which I'd be okay with too. He did recruit a lot of the current UCLA upperclassman that are doing pretty well right now.

The best HC candidate we could come up 2 years ago was an ex-Buff and lifetime TE coach. This time around, it's a former HC that hasn't been employed in the coaching profession since we fired him.

Unreal.

Except neither one was even close to the best candidate we could come up with either time. We just can't make the same stupid mistake we did last time and try to resurrect the past....

As far as RN goes, UCLA was in the Pac12 Championship game last season,.. granted USC was banned but they were there, and they played Oregon @ Autzen pretty tough. The replay was on Pac12 Net. the other night. Listen I just want to WIN damn football games again! 6-6 or bust, I bet Slick Rick could get us there. The guy knows Pac 12 football cold, having coached 3 of the 12 teams i would say he knows it as well as anyone. Most of the UCLA team this year are his recruits too, including that QB who had such a great season. I would be happy to have him back. Call me crazy.

You're crazy.

No to Neuheimlich! UCLA backed into the PAC 12 game last year when CU inexplicably beat Utah.

Just like we did in 05 before 70 - 3. The point is, they were in it! Sideways, backwards, upside down, it doesn't matter, they were in the game. I just want to win. SO BADLY!! I know this probably isn't the route to get us there and If anyone reads my original post, I was just wondering if there was any scenario by which something like this would ever happen because lots of former plays and fans are bringing up the idea of a GB part 2. Right or wrong it ilicits opinions and that is what ALLBUFF's is all about.

You're right, I probably should have said the HC we settled on  Whichever HC we're looking to hire should always be "the best we could find", but sadly, the criteria for hiring a HC at CU appears to be totally ****ed up.

I totally agree with this. Barnett would never come back.

I can't support bring Rick NewWeasel back to Boulder. Nope. We would be better served getting someone else.

he isnt a candidate... boosters again

Good god people. Does no one remember the last few Barnett teams? They were awful. Not D2/Embree awful, but crappy nonetheless.

And others brought up Neuheisel. Are you freaking joking? He took a well oiled machine and dismantled it just outside of two years.

Now I know why Duff Man posted the insanity thread.

THANK YOU! Saved me the trouble of saying anything myself.

Slick was the guy who started us on the downward road (and then left us to damage a Washington program so badly it STILL hasn't recovered). And he was a jerk to boot (fake punts while up by 30 points in the 4th quarter and then yelling "Scoreboard baby!" when the media asked him whether it was a classy thing to do or not

He shouldn't have ever gotten the CU HC job to begin with (another guy who hadn't even been a coordinator before getting the HC job. It was supposed to go to Bob Simmons...who THEN would have been our first black head football coach. A guy who was handpicked for the job by Coach Mac. And yeah...considering the whole Embree "black man" meltdown Mac had recently, it's a bit ironic...).

Oh well. I guess what I am trying to say is: why go down this road? Get the SJSU coach in here and we have at least as good a chance as anyone else we are talking about here (and a better chance than most of these weird longshots I keep reading about...especially the retreads and coordinators...)

Has South Florida offered him the job yet? If so, Bohn has struck out again. Mac2 is a good candidate...and one we could actually get to take the job (seems to be a key element in actually getting a HC in here these days, doesn't it?).

This is the craziest idea in the history of crazy ideas. Look, I like Gary. I think he was done wrong by CU, and I think the only reason he started to struggle was because of the scandal*. If CU had any kind of PR department that had headed this **** off at the beginning, I'm not sure Gary wouldn't still be here. But he's not here, no one has touched him with a 10-foot pole since he left CU, and it would be a epic fail if he came back. He would not bring the type of game that would succeed in the Pac-12. Plus, the women's groups would camp out outside Dal Ward and burn their bras or whatever crazy **** they do, which would have the nutjobs in Boulder all over the AD again.

I did think it was interesting though, while listening to 93.7 today. Mark McIntosh (pretty sure it was him) was saying that Gary has no ill will toward Bohn at all, and in fact they get along quite well. According to McIntosh, Gary knows full well (as should everyone who actually was paying attention at the time) that Bohn was not in charge of firing him, that it was 100% Buffalo Betsy. As far as Gary is concerned (again, according to McIntosh) when he talks about the problems he faced and his successors faced at CU, it is coming from above, not from the AD. Now, I don't know much about McIntosh, he might be a Bohn fanatic - but I don't think anyone really believes that Bohn was really the guy that forced Gary out.

You are crazy. Neuheisel and Barnett are both completely mediocre coaches. You don't think it tells you something that Mora could get a lot more out of Neuheisel's recruits than Neuheisel could? Also, almost all of the events from our big scandal happened on his watch and he skipped town leaving Barnett and everyone else to deal with the mess.
