Vic Fangio - SF 49ers DC, former Stanford DC

The DC of the #1 defense in the NFL isn't qualified

Ok, we might have to just coin flip for our next coach, this is getting ridiculous.

Too little experience at the college level.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, if Vic Fangio is not good enough for CU then we have no business keeping our football program.

It's moot because he's going to have his pick of NFL HC jobs after the season.

Good for him in the NFL! Nobody says he's "not good enough", the knock on him is he is not familiar with college football, e.g. the rigors of recruiting which is the lifeblood of good college programs.

One year at Stanford, where I'll bet he never left campus to recruit-why would he? No college prospect in the US could even tell you who he is!

Get your head out of your ass: Why waste time on guys like this who are so obviously NFL-prototypes? One wasted non-recruiting year at CU and he'd be back in the pros in a heartbeat.

First of all, I'm not pretending for a minute we could get him. Second, college prospects will absolutely know Vic Fangio. And lastly, we can't even get the HC at Utah State to give us the time of day but for some reason geniuses on this board can find a reason to not like every candidate out there including Fangio who is way too good to take this job anyway.

Exactly. We're willing to entertain guys who have 1 year of college DC experience but not someone who was in charge of:

2012: #1 defense in nfl
2011: #2 defense in nfl (by .1 pts)
2010: #12 defense in college

CU would probably have a top 10 defense nationally in 2-3 years under this guy. But for some reason, Koetter is talked about more, a guy who went 40-36 in college. The rationale for disqualifying candidates is bonkers.

The search should be simple - look at coordinators who are continually in the top 3 in either offense or defense! That's what Bill O'Brien was, that's the smart approach.

Andersen wouldn't listen to anyone, it's nothing against CU.

To be fair, there have been quite a few jobs open this year and Anderson wasn't interested in any of them.

Most coaches aren't going to outwardly lobby to leave their current job. If he didn't like the opportunities at the schools who actually approached him, then I would say the same thing he did.
