IMO this is a gigantic move. I know that I was touting SJSU before the year began, and Coach Jeffcoat was one of the major reasons why.

This is an incredible hire. I can't wait to be in Boulder to see how this plays out.

They don't have a single commit from a Texas prep....

They're a WAC school from San Jose, entirely different situation based on budget, etc. I get that your role is to play the skeptic, but Jeffcoat will prove instrumental in recruiting Texas and improving our DL. It's a huge upgrade. Watch and learn, he has tons of connections.

We're entering the honeymoon phase. HCMM walks on water, and he's the next best thing since sliced bread. :gobuffs:

Until our first 3 and out vs CSU. Then we'll be calculating his buyout costs and wondering why the **** Solich isn't forking over a large percentage of it.

I would imagine seeing JJ walk into your high school coach's office wearing both Super Bowl rings and then hearing him talk about working with recently successful coach Kevin Sumlin would get the player's attention.

Jim Jeffcoat is a big name in TX. IIRC, he played college ball at ASU but played for the Dallas Cowboys, coached for UH with Sumlin and his son was a big time recruit from Plano (went to UT), a Dallas suburb and home to many local HS teams of significance in TX. He is, in short, a huge asset in TX recruiting.

Jim Jeffcoat - San Jose State
In his second year on Mike MacIntyre's staff, Jim Jeffcoat's defensive line has been a driving force in the Spartans' jump from 5-7 in 2011 to 10-2 in 2012 with a second-place finish in the WAC and a first-ever appearance in the BCS standings. The Spartans rank 20th nationally and second in the WAC with a rushing defense average of 123.7 yards per game and 3.6 yards per carry. Those numbers represent a drastic improvement from 2011, when San Jose State ranked 106th nationally at 204.3 yards per game and 4.88 yards per carry. A tougher run defense has greatly aided the Spartans' pass defense, as SJSU jumped 48 spots in the national rankings from 2011 to 2012. By far the most drastic improvement Jeffcoat's group has shown is in the number of plays made behind the line of scrimmage. Last season, San Jose State ranked 100th nationally with 1.33 sacks and 4.67 tackles for loss per game. The Spartans defense showed night-and-day improvement this season, ranking fifth nationally with 3.33 sacks per game and 19th nationally with 7.08 sacks per game. Defensive end Travis Johnson leads the way for the Spartans, ranking eighth nationally with 12 sacks and ninth in the country with 19 tackles for loss.
Key stats
5th in sacks (3.33 per game)
20th in rushing defense (123.7 per game)
19th in TFL (7.08 per game)Johnson ranks 8th in sacks, 9th in TFL
