Is Gerald Thomas transferring? (Updated: No, he is not.)

I hope it isn't true.

It is also on dailycamera. I hope they at least wait till after spring practices before making any decisions.

Yeah, but anyone leaving now would give Mac2 another scholarship for this year's incoming class, which is small to begin with. So if he's gonna leave, sooner is better than later. Of course, I hope he stays.

Mike Bohn is not granting transfers until after spring semester. He knows a lot of players are overly emotional and wants them the opportunity to work with the new staff before deciding. I completely agree.

Interesting. I always wondered what gave schools the authority to have to approve transfers, so I just looked it up. From the NCAA website:

Q: Can coaches dictate where a student-athlete can transfer?
A: Coaches can’t tell a student-athlete when or where he or she can transfer. Student-athletes are allowed to transfer at any time if they believe it is in their best interest to attend a different school.
However, in order to receive an athletics scholarship at another school, a student-athlete must receive permission to contact another school, in writing, from the initial school. This rule applies to all student-athletes, whether or not they are on scholarship at the initial school.
The NCAA does not have a rule specifically preventing schools from imposing conditions on which institutions a student-athlete may contact. Rather, NCAA rules require institutions to provide student-athletes a hearing outside of the athletics department if the student-athlete’s written request for permission to contact another institution is not granted, or is granted with conditions. Conditional releases are based on institutional or conference policies.
The NCAA encourages institutions to have their own, clearly communicated policies governing how they address a student-athlete’s request for permission to contact other institutions. Division I schools are required to have a written grievance or appeals process for transfers. That process must be shared in writing with staff, coaches and student-athletes.

As the parent of GT all of this transfer talk is new to me .....haven't talked to my son yet to see if this is any truth to it but I will get some more info and keep you guys updated, me personally think it a bad idea to transfer but in the long run its his decision.

Thanks kthom25... Gerald will look good in our new Offense

We definitely want GT here, he has a bright future. There is a lot going on right now, things will calm down.

sounds like he wants to... hate to see him go, me thinks his #'s would increase dramatically with good coaching, a plan and this offensive scheme... If he is here I will root for him, if not, then CU

Just needs to give the new staff a chance. Alec Burkes was set on leaving when Bzdelic was fired. Tad proved himself and it turned out great for everyone. MacIntyre appears to have many of the same qualities that Tad has.

I'm going to listen to kthom. I'd say that they're a more reliable source than Ringo.

I also agree with not letting kids out of their schollies. It seems extreme, but in some cases it's probably for the kids' own good. Why kill an entire year of eligibility out of anger/fear? At least know what you're getting into/out of before making such a drastic decision.

I wonder how many young men have had miserable freshmen years and wanted to leave but stayed and gone on to have a great experience. Hell, it isn't just athletes. Many kids want to give up during the first year.

Alec was not set on leaving - he just said he did not know what he was going to do. It is also a news flash that Bzdelic was fired....I wonder why we were demanded his $500,000 buyout be paid (which it never was) if he was fired.

What? He wasn't fired, he left

He was considering leaving. I should not have said "set on."

I'm having a bad morning. I said "fired." Of course he left for another job and was nor fired. My bad again. I have a hard time on an iPad getting my thoughts right since it takes me so long to type something.

My point remains that Tad needed to sell himself and he did. OK?
