I wish Embree had done it more like this

Reid demonstated class and that he cares more about his team than himself.

Zero bitter aftertaste.

Andy sounds confident, almost as if his next job is lined up.

Bull****. He didn't get a fair shot! Heavy set coaches don't get second chances! He should have cried to the media and thrown a pancake social for a going away party. It's time for the NFL to wake up and smell the bacon! This is a major problem!!!

FIFY... now we know what happened to Wally

Embree HAD to throw a tantrum, publicly. He can't use "being fired without sufficient time" excuse in his next job if he doesn't protest this firing loudly, immediately. He did the right thing, and hasn't been beating that musty rug since. He didn't have good football advisors, but his PR advisor is correct.

I disagree.

No he did not have to do that. He didn't have to play the race card. He didn't need to throw out every excuse in the book while not taking responsibility. There's no excuse to do what he did, especially to his alma mater that he supposedly loves.

OU, yes. But what else can he use for his opening remark at the next job? Can he say, "You should hire me because I know what I'm doing"? He has NOTHING to show in that regard. He can't even say, "I have a great staff" either. Nor can he say, "I know how to assemble a great program."

He can, however, use the "fired too quickly" excuse.

I think it's all he has. And anyone who'd hire him for THAT reason will get what they deserve because they didn't ask him the three questions I posed above.

(Frankly, I think Jon can also reasonably argue with a comment like, "NOW I know how to assemble a good staff!" He might know what to do better, but I'm not sure he can still do it. I have hopes for him, though. I think Texas Tech will be enjoying this exact same situation shortly, by the way. Okie State almost did but Picken$ saved the program from that Real Man Rantings, otherwise, they'd have been one more lesson about inexperienced-alums taking over the avalanche.)

Jon should have said that he felt he wasn't given enough time. That would have been fair. By using the race card to defend his lack of productivity for a team that was abysmal and near dead last in both offensive and defensive statistical categories left a bad stench and ruined any credibility he had left. He should have handled it better while voicing his frustrations.

It became too personal and I still don't understand why the AD decided to have a press conference the day after he was fired. Bad call, imo.

After reading all these other post, doing some thinking and watching a crap load of football games the last couple of days... jon embree was a terrible coach. He was bad at managing games, players and his assistant coaches. He actually made hawkins look like a genius (well, sorta)... This dude was so far in over his head and had the ego to go with it. Terrible decision maker and that is only what we fans got to see. Who knows what went on behind the scenes?? I really (hope) feel Coach Mike Mac will get this all going in the right direction now. There are plenty of coaches that had their teams ready to play/compete in these bowl games that are unknowns and with a staff full of unknowns. Call me excited and looking at the glass as above half full...GO BUFFS !

I agree. Embree was in over his head. How he could keep going back to Webb is beyond explanation, except stubbornness and incompetence.

We now have a competent coaching staff with real HC experience and a proven winner. I think 4-8 is a fair goal for next year, 6-6 on the extreme outside.

With a new coach and admin apparently committed to winning, my final concern is about the players. When a team is as bad as the Buffs, it's hard to tell which players are good and want to win and which are whiners/poison pills etc, but sure MikeMac will sort that out.

Go Buffs! Stampede to Relevance
