Report: Chip Kelly close to deal with Cleveland Browns

Dumb move.

Igles make way more sense.

Not sure I agree. The igles have a lot more pressure to win yesterday and a press corp there is brutally hard. Kelly's PR skills are really poor and probably wouldn't fly in Philly.

Do not understand...unless he is just after the $$$$$$. Oregon is primed for a run into the foreseeable future of ten win seasons. You are the **** of the walk in Eugene, making seven figures, and on easy street. Why go to the No Fun League? Then again, he'll probably get a raise that double or triples his salary....in the hellhole that is Cleveland.

It's an ego thing. He wants to prove himself at the next level. If he fails in the NFL I am sure a big-time college program will hire him in a heartbeat.

Agree, hell I bet Saban even thinks about going back to the NFL to prove he was not a failure.

hey! that is not fair. their river has not caught on fire in years.

Hahaha. Good for Cleveland. maybe they'll be able to get to the playoffs before all the talent leaves for greener pastures

1. the pay is higher
2. it's easier, because you don't have to reload constantly (i.e. no recruiting). That is taxing on coaches and is the lifeblood.
3. ego - you ain't proved you are the best until you've done it in the league

Joe Schad reported this yesterday, he's tired of recruiting, and all the booster/fundraising obligations. Oregon's alluded to the latter, some of the big shot boosters have been a little ticked that Kelly has been blowing off a lot of his speaking engagements.

Plus, there's still a fair chance Oregon's about to get dinged by the NCAA, some day, maybe. Don't have to worry about that anymore, dealing with player's agents is perfectly normal in the NFL.

I know this guy's a genius and all, but I'd still be wary of the fact he didn't really build Oregon, he took it to another level but they certainly weren't down. 5 years ago he's OC at New Hampshire, and he's never seen the inside of an NFL franchise. IF he fails, seems like all that would be an obvious red flag in hindsight.

They have a lot of young talent on that roster, and I think he is the man to make the most with it. He has a good situation going right out of the gates. I find it a little ironic if he is sick of reloading because of all NFL teams I am pretty sure the Browns need to reload more than anyone. They don't have the money or legacy to hold onto good players.

I'm kind of surprised that Oregon's going to promote Helfrich instead of conducting a search. I'm not negative on Helfrich, but I'm not all that impressed by him either.

They just need someone to run that offense, and let Phil's money do the rest

Especially when most people believe that Chris Peterson would take the job.

I wish Chip Kelly the best. Who wouldn't want to coach the Cleveland Poop Colors?

It's not a done deal, I also expect Lurie to throw stupid money at him to outbid other teams if Kelly is his #1 target.

yeah.... def a rivalry going on between Lurie and Banner (former best friend with the Browns).

You dont know what you are talking about with Philadelphia fans and media.

We put up with 14 years of Mundane Andy Reid.

Talk about poor PR.... just say Buddy Ryan... and he is BELOVED here, even though he never won a playoff game.

I just read that Oregon is being investigated by the NCAA, don't know I had missed that before. I guess he's pulling a Pete Carrol and leaving before the hammer comes down. Browns are reportedly out of the Kelly sweepstakes now too.

It´s between Philly and Oregon for Kelly now and most people are willing to bet on him going back to Eugene

My guess is the only job that Chip Kelly would leave for without hesitation is the Patriots, but Bill Belichik has that job until he decides to retire.
