In the 1st half, we had a 13 point lead and he went hard to our bench.

This is not a home game. It's a weak bench. Bench players are generally much worse on the road. Everything we had going went away as soon as the JV came into the game.

For the same reason, it's time to make XJ as a starter a permanent move. Chen is more valuable to us as a 6th man than as a 5th starter and starting lights a fire under XJ.

Tad ****ed up tonight. Doesn't happen often. But it happens.

Ya I was surprised to see Chen starting. Plus we have a lot of stupid mistakes. Throwing in-bounds out, crappy FT % etc

Yep. When they had 4 from the bench in with the lead, it went cold and we never got it back. XJ definitely needs to be in the starting 5 and Chen was not nearly as effective as the starter. He is now our change of pace and electricity guy from he bench. Like Ski last year

XJ really isn't good at this point. Way too foul happy. With the exception of a couple break-out games, he has been pretty meh. The trouble is we don't have anyone else worth a damn that should be playing.... at any position. Back-up PG, SF, C... all can't play

The guys from the bench are all afraid to shoot except X. and they can't create their own shots even if they wanted to...

Speaking of the bench, my dream is that Shane graduates, Mills transfers, Adams medically retires and Dre comes back next year.

100% agree. The whole rotation is ****ed up. Disastrous loss. Nightmare start to the Pac-12 schedule and we're in deep ****. I'm not overreacting, because this team is atrocious on the road and there's nothing to suggest we won't go out and keep doing this on the road until we're out of Big Dance contention. The Pac-12 isn't a strong enough league to get by with just holding serve at home. You have to win road games against the lesser teams, and we failed miserably at that.

All for nil. We'll just end up running the table during the Pac-12 tourney to earn the auto-bid

This team to a large extent lives by the three. When they aren't falling we get in trouble. This loss isn't a killer yet to our RPI but it certainly gives us less room for error along the road.

Nobody is going to feel sorry for us. I still don't think we're in awful shape, but this was an awful loss. Need to hold serve at home, and find a way to win 3 road games. Being home 4 of the next 6, should be a good remedy for us and help with the team's confidence. Steal one from Washington or Washington State on the road and I'll like where we are at going into our road stretch of Utah, Oregon, Oregon State.

Scott and Andre got pushed around in the paint tonight. Wish Carlon had had one more year, even though he went thru a rough stretch last year he could at least create and get his own shot.

Disagree - To Quote Denny Smith: "They are who we thought they are."

This is a young team with no real single scoring threat who can take over a game, or even a guy who can just will us to victory. Really the only thing this team did wrong was raise our expectations too high by winning the charelston classic.

^^^this^^^

I still think there's a decently high ceiling for this season, as the young guys should continue improve over the course of the season. But, I wouldn't expect any improvement from Adams & Tunks, they've been around long enough where if they were gonna improve, they would have already. The ceiling will be as high as the top 6 can take us.

I don't think Tad is above any blame, but how has no one mentioned in this "blame" thread how much Ski stunk yesterday. Absinthe pretty much nailed it though.

I agree with both in that there is not a leader at this point who can will the team to a win. But I still think Tad went too deep on the bench especially on the road with a team that was somewhat fragile. Outside of the starting 5 plus the 6th (be it XJ or Chen), we are not a deep team. Tunks is back to bad Simba, Adams is a liability and both are freaking juniors that cannot contribute. Stalzer and Talton are not ready.

Tad is going to be able to spell guys one at a time, but he had 4 bench guys in at one time. I think we saw proof that this is not going to work on the road. Everything went to crap when that happened and we could not get back into it. It spiraled from there.

Agree Tad has to shoulder some of the blame for last night. We desperately need someone on this team to step up as a leader. A team with excellent on-court leadership doesn't lose that game. Roberson is a Junior. Time for him to step up. If he won't do it, Dinwiddie needs to.

I dont see Dre as that guy his game just isn't right for it. He'll be the reason you win a lot of games with what he can do but he will rarely be the spark. Has to be the Mayor.

We can't play 6 guys the entirety of the game. Tad has to go to the bench at some point or the regulars will be gassed by the end of the month.

The more the season wears on, it's apparent that the Talton vs. Stalzer backup PG question (question being 1. should we have signed these guys, and 2. which one do we play) will haunt us. I don't want to write either of them off, but they're not meaningful contributors yet.

Not even a question, they're freshman.

Notice I did not say not play them. It is the wholesale changes where you bring 3 or 4 from the bench in at one time. It is not going to work on the road at this point. You have to play them and go deeper than 6, I agree. It is more about how you rotate them onto the court and the combinations that you can get productivity from.

No disrespect to those guys, but they weren't highly recruited. Remember reading Whelan's write up on Talton last year saying he wasn't a P12 caliber player. Didn't want to believe that, but after watching, he might be right.

Hoping it's too early to tell and these guys step it up as the year goes on. But neither are ready to play at this level yet.

That's fine, but its not like Tad hasn't found any gems before. It was pretty commonly thought that Talton should RS. The big concern should be Adams and SHT, not the two freshman point guards.

I think Talton is already starting to look better. He's nowhere near being a good bench contributor, but it isn't a complete disaster whenever he has the ball in his hands like it was at the beginning of the year. I think he can be a very solid role player down the line.
