Valencia's Tedric Thompson, something to speak of
Ex-Viking great taught Thompson to express himself while excelling

Tedric Thompson laughs in acknowledgement of his reputation — the valuable Valencia High junior two-way player knows he’s quiet and shy.

And he knows people know that.

But there’s a change on the horizon — a necessary change. One that would add another dimension to his value.

Thompson looks up to former Valencia High standout Brock Vereen, and Vereen knows it.

When Vereen, a sophomore defensive back at the University of Minnesota, came back to train at Valencia High this summer, he text messaged Thompson and told him he was coming.

The pair met and trained.

They lifted weights together, set up some cones and backpedaled, and Vereen showed the Valencia junior free safety and wide receiver some drills he learned at the University of Minnesota.

Then they talked.

“I asked him, ‘When it’s time to talk to the team, what do you say to get the team pumped up?’” Thompson says. “He said, ‘It comes from the heart.’”

The fact that Thompson asked for leadership tips from Vereen, the teammate he has looked up to the most in now three varsity seasons, is a giant step.

Tedric's brother plays football for Minnesota. With so many connection, I wonder if he's a lock.

However, he is visiting CU for the Spring Game.

“I like Minnesota and Colorado a lot,” Thompson said. “They have offered so that means a lot to me. Minnesota was my first offer so that is really special and you always remember that first offer. I’m not planning to commit anywhere early though, I want to take my time.

“I’m planning to major in Law so I’m looking for a school with a strong program there. I kind of want to stay close to home too. I don’t mind leaving but not sure I want to go too far. I would also like to try and play as a freshman so that’s something else I’m looking in to.”

The 6-foot-1, 203-pound prospect will visit Fresno State the weekend of Dec. 14 and then he's looking to take a trip to Minnesota sometime in January.

Those two programs have emerged as favorites for Thompson, who said he'd also like to take trips to Washington State and Hawaii but he's not sure when those could get scheduled.

It would make a huge difference just having some safeties who are north of 5'9".

This one looks Gopher to me. He's got some in-homes this week and then leaves for Minnesota. Upon his return, it will enter a no-visit period.

Weather looks ugly there though, so hope he likes high of 24 while snowing. Boulder will be Mid 50's and Sunny....

It's going to be cold as **** on his visit and MM has a in-home Thursday

Liked our chances better when he didn't seem to be down to visit Minny. Brother there + some other guy from his HS that he looks up to there = not looking good for us

Our "haul" at Safety looks to depend entirely upon landing Tedric as of right now. Hopefully MacIntyre brings in a S or two this weekend
