Kennedy Polamalu is not supposed to return to USC.
It would be great to get him back to CU. He has special team coordinator experience too.

I'd be all over that if they made him RB and ST coach and probably some kind of Assistant HC as he may demand that.

How well does he recruit? May be a way to get back into Poly recruiting.

That is Kennedy Pola in the picture and he was here with Neuheisel. I think the LA Times is wrong on the last name (unless he changed his name).

Same guy. He changed his name a couple years ago back to Polamalu. His family had shortened the name when they originally moved to California.

That, and a guy in Pittsburgh made the full family name a lot more famous...

Duff, you are correct. I looked it up on the U$C site. Polamalu was born in Pago Pago, American Samoa, on Nov. 22, 1963, the same day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated (Polamalu was named in his honor). He returned to his homeland in the summer of 2011 and conducted a football clinic. It was then that he changed his named back to Polamalu (from Pola, which he has used since coming to California) to "honor my parents, family and heritage."

This would be a tremendous hire. Islander connections are crucial in the PAC more than any conference in football. He has history recruiting players to Boulder and his position coach experience is where we need it most. Best fit available for our remaining vacancy, short of a ST coach guaranteed to make our kicks go out of the end zone every time and add some elevation to 30-40 yard field goal tries.

Carson Palmer was in the 1998 recruiting class, not the 1999. Neuheisel lost him to Paul Hackett at the last second. Pretty hard to imagine Rick leaving for Washington if he had gotten Palmer in the fold the year before, though.

Completely agree. He is a solid coach and a proven recruiter. He recruited two 5 star kids to USC last year. We have a solid core group of coaches familiar with how MacIntyre wants to run the program, if Polamalu can fit in with the staff chemistry he would be an awesome edition. I hope we go after him hard.

I am not going to get any work done this week until I see we have hired him. Maybe an overreaction, but after missing (or passing) on Lubick and Carroll, I really want Polamalu to be a Buff.

Davis, I think you need to be looking at more realistic targets. "Striking out" on Lubick, Carroll, or Polamalu makes it sounds like those guys would be even remotely interested.

There are plenty of other guys out there that would be good gets.

You are right. I am probably way too optimistic in general.
But, unless Lubick hates CU do to the in-state rivalry, we should have been able to get with to come to CU from Duke.
Was hopeful that Carroll might want to get back to the Pac12.
Currently, Polamalu is unemployed. He probably has many options, but I hopeful he sees helping to re-build CU as his best option.

Who do you think would make a good final assistant that is more realistic?

When Kennedy Pola was at CU he was not that popular with the fan base. He would be in the bars in Boulder and would always be telling/bragging to anyone who would listen how great USC was and this is while he was on the CU payroll. This was discussed in length on the message boards back in those days (dialup). CU's running game was going into the tank while he was at CU in 97 and 98 which also made him unpopular. There are a lot of other guys out there I would rather have. There is nothing in his resume that excites me. Neu did not want to take him to Washington with him when he left CU. He was never considered a polished recruiter.

The revisionist history is fun though...

On the reality side of the ledger - Carson Palmer was a long shot with CU and anyone else that was not USC. Neuheisel's sideline antics with Hesseler had killed a lot of his rep as a QB guru.
