I think our defense finishes no higher than 10th in the PAC-12 in 2013

Why? Where? What are we supposed to tell ya? ****, we may as well go for CU will win the national championship next year.

Gotta stay healthy and get solid LB and S play but I think our DL and secondary can make some plays

Not necessarily grounds for high hopes, but a lot of our defensive woes last year seemed to be due to issues that are highly correctible. Often times, guys were just ridiculously out of position to make what would have been relatively routine plays. Just get the guys in the right spots on the field and we should improve. One would hope that with an emphasis on basic fundamentals like wrapping up when tackling, getting to 11th or even 10th in conference defense is attainable.

HCMM is a very smart defensive mind who has a very experienced DC working under him. Scheme, preparation and not playing freshen DTs against the Pac-12 will put us in the middle of the conference. This will happen even if there's still a talent gap, because with HCMM being a defensive guy he'll run the offense in a way to shorten the game, protect the D, and keep games closer.

If our offense finishes in the middle third of the conference, then I think our defense will finish in about the same spot.

Give me some confidence.

again i think we can jump 40 spots in the NCAA rankings which would move us into 11th in the confrence, it is a huge improvement for us, but we were just down that far.

Exactly.

The only thing I will add is that we now have a Safety Coach, a CB coach, a HC who coached this position in the NFL under Parcells, along with Chapelle Brown.

Got the feeling that Chapelle was doing it mostly on his own last year. Mosely, Hall, Wright, Crawley all struggled and I expect vast improvement at DB (as well as DL).

I just hope they keep it simple and play fast. Tupou and Solis need to make a big jump. The better they are, the more it helps backer and secondary play. I'd like to see way better tackling, it's been awful.

Just not sold on the safeties or linebackers. Plus the depth at DE is going to be an issue. I like several players, but not sure it fits together all that well.

Highly doubt we finish 120th again, but I think getting to 100th (34.9 a game) is a stretch. I just want to see the defense give us a chance in a handful of games.

I'd like us to finish mid 80s or better on overall D. What's that ups stats sheet? Haha
