CU will rely on $50 million in private support to execute the project, and a significant effort to raise funds from donors will now begin to support it. In addition, other athletic revenue sources will be used to finance this major initiative.

The plan also includes a study to redevelop family housing that now sits west of Folsom Street and south of Arapahoe. The university has for several years been re-envisioning the possibilities of a more modern family housing complex with greater appeal for residents and greater density to make more efficient use of space.

CU President Bruce Benson said the project marks a bold new era of partnership with donors, alumni, fans and stakeholders.

“Intercollegiate athletics is the front porch of the university,” said Benson. “This plan will help bring people from across Colorado and around the country together in support of CU, and it will challenge all of us as donors, alumni and fans to work together to make this vision a reality.”

First Phase: Academic Center under EAST stands in folsom + preventing folsom from falling into the creek. Concourse is gonna change something fierce.
Second phase: Dal Ward expansion/enclosing stadium.
Third phase: IPF/outdoor practice fields.
Fourth phase: Balch/west side

Now we've got that out of the way:

1. They're doing this all bassackwards! We need the IPF and Balch improvements first.
2. No timetable on any of this. The way things have gone, can we expect the IPF this century let alone this decade?

counter argument: Getting the foundation stuff fixed is really important. Messing with foundation stuff is EXPENSIVE. And it's a lot better to do it earlier, rather than later. Also, I don't want Folsom to fall into the creek. :lol: I think the academic building is just something they can tack onto that project.

Next: expansion = more $ in tickets, and sooner. so it should be 2d. Also you are expanding dal ward at the same time, which helps.

3d and 4th phases are the "sexy" upgrades, but the ones that would take the most time/money.

I'll concede the structural issues are first priority. However, I disagree with your statement about expansion, and this has been discussed many times before. There isn't a demand for tickets right now. Adding more seats doesn't necessarily mean more money. Which is why I think redoing Balch and the west side is more important. Premium seats and more amenities over there might make more money, I just don't think ****** seats in the north endzone will at this point.

At this point is key, we need to start winning and winning big to create demand for more seats. We need players to do that. We need legit facilities to get legit players.

Thus:

1. Fix structural issues
2. Build IPF
3. Premium upgrades
4. Expand stadium
5. Profit.
 
bah, by 2045 when the second phase is completed, we will be winning big, so we gotta get ti done right away!
 
Cue the people saying "they aren't doing it (the way/as fast/as big) as I want it, so I won't contribute to it." We have our long-awaited announcement, thus I'm guessing that is the next item on the Buffs fans' bitch-list.

I don't think we get that until the Regents vote on it. I expect/hope we will see things move in accordance with the timelines in HCMM's contract.
 
So, the 170 million is a bit lower than the 200 to 250 they were talking about earlier - are we taking savings from moving the IPF into an easier spot for construction and putting them into the keg? Pure speculation.

This announcement is long over due. This welcome news is better late than never.

I applaud President Benson for recognizing that intercollegiate athletics is the front porch of the university.

CU's reputation of running a cash strapped athletic department that is willing to let a national champion caliber football program fall to the depths of college football futility was a major liability.

Our porch needed a makeover.

The Buffs have a new coach and a new facilities plan. This is progress.

Now let's put our shoulders together and make this happen sooner than later.

You do realize that we want CSU to get their project done (as long as it doesn't cost taxpayer dollars), right? It's the only way we can be nearly 100% certain of our games against them moving out of Denver and back to campus.

Whatever, though. This post will be the last one in this thread that mentions CSU. Completely off topic.
 
I'm thrilled to finally get the announcement on this, a little confused on the scope and budget though. Not to be a Debbie downer but we are planning on trying to get in a stadium expansion, academic center, IPF, and various renovations at about half of what Arizona is spending on their stadium renovation. Either the math is off, or our plans are significantly less ambitious. Hopefully it will be awesome, I just hope they go beyond the typical meet minimal expectations approach the school has taken with athletics support in the past.
 
i think it looks awesome and i'm excited that they are taking the steps to move this forward! let's all donate special towards this. seriously.
 
Per a local columnist on twitter, Phase 1 and 2 combined cost 39$ million.

Per Reedmarks, 25$million pledged already.
 
It's great to see them FINALLY get off the couch on their porch and make some sort of announcement. IPF third is somewhat disappointing though.
