Georgetown Day H.S. (Herndon, VA)

Club Team:

Ht: 6-foot-2

HoopGurlz rating: 3*-87 grade; #51 forward

Reported Offers: Colorado, Pennsylvania, Pitt

Another 2013 commit for the WBB per Brian Howell. His Buffzone article http://www.buffzone.com/ci_21767802/womens-basketball-cu-buffs-add-zoe-beard-fails also mentions another possible player from the U17Canadian National Team. On ESPN HoopGurlz, which has gone dormant a few months ago, Zoe is listed as a 3 star Forward even tho they don't have herlast namequite right.

Allsome! Welcome Zoe. I'll throw together an official recruit thread for her tomorrow when I can get to a computer.

I just wish that with some of the weak mustaches we've seen on the men's team, that "Beard-Fails" had been someone's name from that squad.

Welcome Zoe.

I had seen where some of the coaching staff was in DC.

Wow you can predict our classes in 1000 years thats impressive! Kidding aside the WBB is on the upswing.

Damn, looks like she could be a hell of a player for us. She put up 26 points and 18 rebounds a game her sophomore year according to that article from Howell. She tore her ACL early last year, but it sounds like she's 100%. I love what Linda is doing with these last two recruiting classes.

Supposedly this is a video of Zoe Beard-Fails, but I can't tell because youtube is blocked at my work. So here's hoping Google search didn't lie to me.

This young lady is an interesting recruit. It seems that she was a real blue chip prospect in 8th and 9th grade, which would explain all the interest from Coach Watson and many others. It was about this time that she transferred from a high grade basketball public school to a much smaller private school, for ACADEMIC reasons. Since she was getting offers from Penn and Harvard, this was obviously the priority of her and her family.

Even though. her basketball recuiting stock seems to have slipped, according to ESPN, she was still an invitee to the USA U16 tryouts last year, meaning someone saw her as one of the top 50 or so players in the country. I really think the injury and the loss of her AAU summer was what may have caused her to slip. Keep in mind also, that since the demise of ESPN Hoopgirls, the summer evalutations are NOT part of the rankings shown on their site, which makes them suspect.

Although, she may be a project, because of the lost time of that injury, I think Coach Lappe has not only grabbed a good under the radar recruit, but also opened the door for more East Coast opportunities.

By the way, the picture in the profile post is from her freshman year since she is in South Lakes HS uniform. Looks pretty good!

I concur on both points above. Zoe's rating went down due to her missing AAU/summer ball which meant she wasn't evaluated by the recruiting services over the summer. Had she been healthy this past summer she most likely would have been a 4 star recruit.

All of this season's verbals have been from "under the radar" or "sleepers" to use a couple of cliches.

Where can we see player evaluations since Hoopgurlz seems to have died?

There aren't any recent evaluations due to her ACL injury. In one or more of the previous posts are links to older evaluations, including a try out for the U-16 USA team. They are in general very positive.

My guess is that her senior season at Georgetown Prep will see her put up amazing numbers, but it will be against very poor competition. So we won't really have a sense of how good she is until the Euro trip next August.

Mom told me there was no decision to be made as she wanted to watch Chucky's games. I got the impression there was never another school considered.

The Washington Post has a story on Beard-Fails on their recruiting blog.

The 6-foot-2 Beard-Fails, who missed almost her entire junior season after tearing her ACL in the fifth game, chose Colorado in great part because of the rapport she had built with Buffaloes assistants LaTonya Watson and Kelly Rae Finley when they were on the staffs at American and Harvard, respectively.

When each ended up in Boulder a year apart, Beard-Fails took that as a sign that maybe she should join them.

I knew both the new assistant was making trips to DC as was Coach Lappe. They got their player.

I found these stats from Zoe's senior season...Also a video talking about the return from injury.

Wonder how she ended up with only 4 pts on Feb. 23, after all those double digit games. We can always use scorers. She will learn defense.

check the final score on that game, probably a bottom feeder and the coaches dint want her pouring it on.
