North Carolina A&T beat Liberty 73-72 in the 16/16 game. Liberty drove to the hoop in the final seconds but couldn't get a bucket. A&T plays Louisville next.

St. Mary's defeats Middle Tennessee State 67-54 in the 11/11 game. St. Mary's will take on Memphis

JMU is the most impressive 16 seed I've seen in terms of talent. Win or lose, their length and size are quite formidable, issue is they're young. This is not some Eastern Alabama A&M that you sometimes see in the 16 slot. (Western Kentucky, based on their tradition and mental psyche is also a strong 16)

Edit: LIU launching from the bonusphere to get back in it. They're solid themselves. Good game.

I need to get in the habit of calling this the "First Four". Can we all do that and then refer to the round of 64 as the "1st Round"?

4 games, I guess. Nothing about this round makes any sense.

In all seriousness, while I fully understand that ridiculousness of calling this the "First Round", the NCAA is clear on Thursday/Friday being called "Second Round". Next thread should be called "Round of 64" IMO.

Then again, I'm the first to tell the NCAA to go **** themselves on mascot issues and NCAA Tournament events in South Carolina, so do as you wish.

And I refuse to count last night as Saint Mary's adding to their all-time tournament win total.

To show just how ridiculous it is to call Tuesday and Wednesday the first round - 60 teams get a "first-round" bye.

Two very capable teams playing now in the La Salle v. Boise State matchup. Winner could surprise Kansas State.

La Salle is feisty. Could give K-State trouble, but they've been done no favors playing late tonight and having to play early Friday in Kansas City (whereas other teams in the First Four are playing in Dayton or Lexington).

La Salle defeats Boise State 80-71. I was impressed with La Salle. As I mentioned, they are done no favors playing an early game in Kansas City on Friday. La Salle is horrible at rebounding, but K-State isn't exactly a power at it.
