Sounds like Tad's ahead of the curve again. From Insider's VIP Executive Run recap:

Malik Pope (Sacramento, Calif./Burbank)
2014, WF, 6-7, 180 pounds

The sinewy wing-type has blossoming perimeter skills, excellent quickness and magnetic hands. He rebounds well in his area and can lead the break due to his nifty handle and astute court vision. He handed out a number of high-level passes and he can knock down the 3-point shot. He is conservatively one of the top five prospects out west for the Class of 2014.

All from today...

Josh Gershon
@JoshGershon

Tad Boyle, Arizona, Washington, USC and Gonzaga all here watching Malik Pope and Team Superstar.

Malik Pope...stud. This kid is good but his upside is through the roof. He might be one of the top few 2014 prospects out west.

Malik Pope drives baseline and throws down big time reverse one-hand dunk. Add Arizona State, SDSU and UNLV to list of schools watching him.

Add UCLA to Malik Pope's offer list.

Bossi pretty much echoed Gershon on Rivals. He also singled out CTB as being in attendance to watch Pope and named him as the best wing on the west coast in 2014. It sounds like at least half the Pac12 was in the gym to watch him last night.

Watch these highlights. For those of you wanting a one and done talent, here it is. I have no idea if we have a legit shot here, but I do remember seeing something awhile back where Pope stated we were recruiting him as hard as anyone. I can't find it now though.

He has been very quiet about his recruitment. I think he could end up a 2 year guy depending on how he shows his freshman year.

"I would have to be around my environment, because I'm a warm weather guy," Pope said. "I hate bad weather. I like LA-type weather and Miami and San Diego. That kind of weather is nice."

I think a lot of kids in Cali feel that way, but that shouldn't stop Boyle from recruiting them. Some could love the changing of seasons in Colorado that doesn't happen in LA.

The perception of CO weather from SoCal & TX kids is much, much worse than the reality. It seems like after every recruiting visit there's a quote about surprise at the sunshine & it not being cold (and they've seen the norm).

CO avg year = 20 days of ****** weather, 40 days of mediocre weather & 300 days of gorgeous weather

Yeah, I remember going out to the UCLA game and the weather was complete crap. Granted it was November, but it was cool and grey, rainy and gloomy most of the time. I remember thinking this is the LA weather everyone loves?

That sounds like my perfect day. Overcast, a little bit cool but could do without the rain.

Has anyone heard anything about Malik recently? I feel like he would be the perfect big to bring in. He's 6'8 (some rumors that he is taller) and has a great ball handling skills. Could play 2-5 for us.

Don't think we're even in the running.

Everything seems very quiet on the recruiting front with Pope. He's dropped a bit in the rankings. I believe he missed part of last season due to a broken leg, which may have something to do with it. Goose, have there been any updated on this kid at all for a while?

Not really. But honestly, I've kind of stopped paying attention to most of his stuff unless it's BIG news just because I don't like our odds.

That's too bad. I'm not sure how these top-tier recruits are still by passing Tad Boyle. But it's okay, while they watch as Tad leads our Buffs to Pac-12 titles and Big Dance berths, they'll be sitting there wishing they had played for Colorado.
