If Tad did leave, what coach would you target?

I think we'd need to continue to have a focus on athleticism and defense in order to fit the current system.

A few thoughts:

Mick Cronin - Cincinnati
Gregg Marshall - Wichita State
Anthony Grant - Alabama
Marvin Menzies - New Mexico State

I hope we never lose Boyle. He is perfect for our program. Great defense will always keep us in eveyr game. He just needs to fix our offensive problems.

Bohn has shown to go after mid major coaches for bball along I-25, so maybe Eustachy, just kidding! We are in a great place now than we have never been in the past to attract a quality coach.

Gregg Marshall is a great coach, but I'm not sure if he would be interested.

Mick Cronin is from Cincinnati, so that would be hard as well.

I'm not sure. Are their any young coaches on the west coast? Or maybe a good mid major coach?

Here's a few:

Rich Byrd - Belmont
TIm Cluess - Iona
Byrce Drew - Valpo
Randy Bennett - St Mary's

John Groce. This is based upon Illinois not being as retarded as UNLV.

The biggest drawback is, of course, that Champaign, IL is not located near I25.

What about the coach at Southern? Took us into overtime, and almost won first round of tourney.

There's always Mike Dunlap, too. He may want to come back to college after the mess he's got in Charlotte.

TX-Southern's Mike Davis was coach at Indiana and UAB. I would have mentioned him, but I think he's staying in the Houston area due to something related to his son's opportunity in high school / AAU. I read something about that earlier this year. He signed long-term.

It was Texas Southern we played. Different than Southern. TX Southern was ineligible for the Dance. Their coach is Mike Davis, ex-Indiana and UAB coach.

edit: Nik beat me, oops

I've seen Dunlap's name pop up in a couple of UCLA candidate threads as well. Can't imagine he'd play nicely with their alumni though.

I'd say Marshall from Wichita would likely be my top guy, not sure about his west coast recruiting connections though. Hell, Hoiberg would be a good get for a lot of schools if anybody thought they would be able to get him to bail on Iowa State. Bennett just seems too "meh" to me despite his success at St. Mary's, though his name is always going to pop up when a Pac 12 job opens up.

I'd stay in-house and make Rodney Billups the head coach. If Chauncey retired and didn't see it as overshadowing his little bro, I'd bring him in too.

Isn't there some guy out there who would fit in really well with those who want to de-emphasize athletics in Boulder, his name is Ricardo something, maybe Patton. I think he's available.

Just kidding but I am concerned that our success has been a lot more to do with Tad than with the school. If Tad were to leave would Benson and Dr. Phil give Bohn the support and resources to bring in someone who is likely to continue our recent success or would we settle for mediocracy again.

Thankfully I don't think Tad is going anywhere soon but having been a fan of this program longer than the normal Allbuffer has been on the earth (longer than 35 years) I lack confidence in how the school would handle it.

The way he coached at Pitt would be a perfect fit for what Tad does. I don't know if his system fits with the egos that come with #1 recruiting classes, though. His time at UCLA points to it not working. I actually think Tad would struggle at UCLA for the same reasons Howland has (and Howland would do well at CU for the same reasons Tad has).

Marshall because we've had good luck with the WSU thing. Marshall or Dunlap.

I'm going to do my best to ignore the fact that this thread even exists.

I could see Marvin Menzies. Could actually lure him with salary too.

Last name would be too offensive to a certain portion of the Boulder demographic...

The obvious choice is Joe Scott. Have you seen how close the DU campus is to I-25?
