Second Spring Scrimmage Stats

Wood and Dorman were the only QBs with double digit attempts. Back to back scrimmages where Dorman had 14 attempts, most out of all QBs. Dillon and Hirschman barely threw. Any reason why? I'm guessing (pure guess) MM knows what he's got with Dillon and Hirschman and wants to see what Wood and Dorman can do? If someone else has a better idea, have at it.

My best guess is MM knows he has no real QB on the roster right now so he's cool with throwing **** on a wall hoping something sticks.

Or maybe he was giving a couple players one last long look before the reps start getting narrowed down to a few QBs. Keep in mind this was the last practice before MacIntyre said he wants to narrow the list down for after spring break.

Yeah possible. Seems like we have 2 too many QBs on the roster already.

Thats my thought as well, but then MM is quoted saying reporters can see which QBs are favorites by watching who gets the most reps.

He did...but I say with 100% certainty that neither Wood or Dorman are favorites. Hell, Wood is probably going to have to switch positions IMO

He was talking about practices after Spring Break with that quote.

Right. It's probably a last hurrah for Wood and Dorman so they were given a fair last chance.

To be honest, I'm glad the reports out of spring practice are that our team looks like crap. The team (not kids individually) is crap. I find hope that the coaching staff is building this team the right way, and it ain't gonna be pretty for a while.

If it's between Dillon and Hirschman I really hope Dillon wins out. If he's not better than Hirschman we'll be in rebuilding mode for a long time. Of course, in fantasy land it would be great if Sefo came in and blew the doors off, but I'd also be happy for him to redshirt.

My concern with Hirschman is durability. I don't see him making it through a season, let alone a game, without having to come out due to injury. These practices are non-contact or light contact for QBs and not going to tell the full story about his health issues.

It is tough for a Freshman to compete for a starting job at QB unless he is an incredible talent. Dillion may be better physically but not might be ready to take the reins right off the bat. I think the QB situation is scary right now.

Very scary. I don't think the depth chart matters after Dillon. It's Dillon, and then wait till Sefo competes.

Shane is going to have to grow up real fast

None of these guys has any more experience in this offense than anybody else. They all started at square one. Experience, in this case, is irrelevant, IMO.

Looking at these stats tells me it's going to be a long year. Our defense was horrific last year and I doubt much has changed after 8 practices. If our offense can't dominate them it's doubtful they'll do much against other teams. Our best chance to show improvement starts on offense and until we see them do something against our own D I don't think we can be very optimistic about next year. And I'm not buying into "the defense is always ahead of the offense" theory. Our defense is bad until proven otherwise and with the lack of depth in the front seven I don't believe we'll be stopping anyone this year. Without a QB who shows more than these stats indicate I can't see it happening. It's early and a lot can happen, but talk is cheap/actions speak and right now it doesn't look good.

I kind of disagree. Some of these guys have experience with the guys they're throwing to and the guys blocking for them. Some have taken live snaps in front of 50,000 fans. Some have taken real hits from opposing BCS defensive lineman. Others haven't.

Comes down to if you think experience makes them better. I think the base was so low last year, improving year over year doesn't get it done unless the offseason strides are tremendous. And I don't see that happening.

Anyone else find that surprising, considering he almost came back six months ago? Are there still lingering issues?
Sounds like it's just a precautionary measure. He does drills, just not scrimmages or contact.

Yep, experience is most definitely not irrelevant in this case. Really in any case, it always enters the equation.

Grasp of the playbook is really of secondary concern. Either a guy can play or he can't. That is what MacIntyre and his staff are trying to figure out right now more than anything.
