MacIntyre considering adding an eighth QB

Just read this. You gotta be kidding me. We are in full 1000% rebuild mode. Let Dillon or Sefu have a shot and see what happens. So dumb

He is stuck in the same boat Embree was stuck in. He knows he cannot win without a serviceable QB and he does not have one he likes. That causes you to go out and try to get someone in a hurry.

If he recruits one for the 2014 class, he is looking at not having anyone until the 2015 season. I blame this on Hawkins poor QB recruiting. Now we are stuck scrambling.

Well the last QB to come from Butte CC to D1 as a full qualifier with 3 years to play was..... Aaron Rodgers. Brett Ratliff also played at Butte before Utah and has been bouncing around as a NFL practice squad QB for a while now.

I saw somewhere that a QB from north of Sacramento has not been recruited to play D1 out of HS since the 80's. I'd give the dude a chance.

I don't think it is dumb at all. Dillon does not seem to be ready and Sefo will be a true frosh - you have no idea if he is ready. The thing that is not inspiring is this guys stats do not blow you away.

You have to remember a key to the San Jose State turn around was bringing in a Juco QB who could play.

Clearly we need a QB badly. I hope this kid is good. Will be interesting to see what happens to the rest of our QBs come the end of spring ball.

:keule:

I knew we were going to suck next year. Now I am fully assured we are going to suck for a long time. If MM is the real deal, we'll be bowling in about 2016. I'm in the pro-Bohn camp, but he sure screwed the pooch with the Hawkins and Embree hires.

ummm.
Good:
Fishback played last season at Butte College in California, where he helped lead his team to a 10-1 record.

If he comes to CU, he will have four years to complete three years of eligibility.

but
Fishback completed 108 of 201 passes for 1, 482 yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions last season, according to stats reported by the California Community College Athletic Association. Fishback played an offense with similar concepts and designs to what the Buffs have been installing the spring.
just over 50% completion rate (well below average) and a less than 2:1 TD/INT ratio (average) and a Yard per attempt of 7.37 (about average for an NCAA QB in 2012)...

This is like, a huge reach even if all you are hoping for is D1 mediocrity...

2d thought on this: Just another confirmation that a LOT of the QBs on the roster are gone asap.

Those stats are as a true freshman apparently (4 years left to play 3), so hopefully there is some room for growth. And MM did recruit him in high school, so he's got some familiarity with what the kid can do. That's about the best I can come up with on the "maybe it's not a terrible thing" front...

Dillon cant run, not ready....Sefo no exp.....Schrock,Dorman wont see the field......webb no....wood no....hirsch no....gotta go with someone who has been in the offense.......at least MM is set to straight up tell QBs sorry, not going to work out.

Dillon can move

From Scout back in 2011 (free content). Note that he was drawing interest from SJSU, so HCMM has some familiarity there.

Nelson Fishback – Durham (Calif.) High School
Grade: B-
Offers: None, interest from Fresno State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, and Tulsa among others

Key Strength: This kid from Northern California has only played QB for one year and it showed. He has a ton of ability, however, and he can make any throw on the field. The thing I love is that Fishback throws the ball with authority. His balls are not caught they catch the receiver. He has good footwork for a new QB, which is impressive and shows that he has a lot of natural ability and can learn fast. He throws a tight spiral and commands his offense. He is an athletic QB. He played running back as a sophomore so has the ability to run. Watching Fishback will not wow a fan, but a coach would be drooling about the ability that is untapped with this QB.

Key Weakness: Inexperience is Fishback’s Achilles heal going in to next season. He made some throws that left me scratching my head and saying aloud “why did you throw that ball.” The best thing out of that was that Fishback knew that it was the wrong read just as fast. He has a long way to go to understand how to read and react to a defense. In addition, Fishback needs to understand the situation that his team is facing and get his team into

Brent Burnette will be given a scholarship to compete with Fishback for the job. He has 1 year to play 1.

He was "drawing interest" from San Jose State, huh? Well, gee, that's all I needed to hear. Sign the kid up.

We are so screwed.

Sounds like his inexperience is what was holding him back based on that article. Not bad numbers for only playing his second year at QB. I also like that he's mobile.

Maybe this is just a ploy designed to entice a great recruit to commit soon. Or, it could be what it looks like: DOOM!

The shame is we have a solid corp of WRs to throw to and (apparently) no one to get them the ball.

The article doesn't say the signing is imminent or that it's a done deal. MM might be exploring options in case there's a massive QB defection after spring ball is over.
