Howland took the Bruins to several Final Fours and they weren't paying him anywhere near $3 million.

That's gonna be tough. They have a sizable buyout on Howland, the next coach will cost a buyout to land him, and then there's the annual salary. Unless they've found boosters to foot the bill, I have trouble seeing it.

Anyway, I've soured on the "big name" hire thing. Unless you can land one of the guys on the Mt. Rushmore of college coaching, there's not a lot of bang for your buck between hiring some former Power 6 assistant who is kicking butt at a small-major versus hiring someone who is having some success at a high-mid or a lesser Power 6 program.
