Mike MacIntyre on the Solid Verbal Podcast

Solidverbal is a great podcast and they are very CU friendly.

With Dan being a Duck fan, it gets the Pac 12 a good portion of the conversation every episode, which helps. Good interview, about 20 minutes. Starts at about minute 7 for anybody that wants to skip past the intro.

A couple funny things to me are: 1.) Asking him why he picked CU-HCMM didn't mention what is likely the main reason-an exponentially higher salary :) 2.) When asked what he saw on tape before starting at CU that he liked about the team-HCMM said well they had a lot of young players playing who could improve and have gained early experience. That was the best he could honestly say about the team he inherited. He found the positive out of it.

Colorado is the 5th most watched college football program? Wow!!

That's what happens when for years you've scheduled tougher than at least 90% of other major programs due to the need to schedule appealing match-ups to put butts in seats. Colorado fans are not real enamored with showing up for matches against South West Bumpkin State.

It's tough to dislike a new coach. I am really a fan of Mike Mac. There was a level of arrogance that never appealed to me about Embree. Mac is a very likable down to earth guy. I can't see him screwing up a commitment by pissing off a kid or his parents. Knowing what we know about our last two failures, I think that he provides the best possible remedy we could hope for. Big attention to detail. Smart recruiting approach. Simpler and fast pace offense. Speed and tough mentality on defense. And maybe the most important, a plan to build the players' confidence.

Of course, it all sounds good now. I really hope we see that positive momentum that we've all been dying to see. I believe we will.

Over what time period? I know that during the 90's CU had more games nationally televised than any school not named Notre Dame. Aggressive out of conference scheduling helps, and when you add consistent top 15 performances, you get a lot of tv time, which we had back in the day. If the time period considered goes back any distance at all, it's not surprising that we would be in the top 5.

If it's the last 4 or 5 years though, that's actually really, really bad for our program to have that much exposure. We don't want people watching when we suck so bad...

Actually that makes sense given the Mac 1.0 years were concurrent with the explosion of TV coverage following the Oklahoma TV lawsuit.
