Football: Jay MacIntyre could join CU Buffs, but not as quarterback

oh man, not again....I am sure he is a good athlete. I understand he isn't going to be a QB if he comes to CU, but father-son coach-player relationships are tough....

I don't think this is a big deal. As long as Jay's good enough to play safety at this level, it may as well be here.

Straightforward, I don't want under any circumstances. Even if he is good. College is not a place for a father-son combo.

Would rather he play hoops. Solves a lot.

But HCMM has missed a lot of time with his son over the years. There's a big draw to "make it up" by having him play here.

At least two big differences between this and the Hawkins situation. One is that M2 played for his dad as well, he has seen a model of how it can work without disrupting the team. Secondly there is a big difference between a kid that plays QB and a kid that plays other positions. The QB is both the most visible and public of your players and also a team leader.

QBs end up taking large amounts of credit for success or blame for failure. Casual fans who know nothing about the game will have opinions about the QB. You also don't usually platoon QBs so you have a clear starter and clear backups who are often the most popular guy on the team.

In general I don't like the idea of a coaches kid playing for him but I wouldn't assume that this one would be a problem just because of our prior history in a completely different situation.

Most importantly...

In recruiting, if your son is the starting QB as a freshman there are going to be a lot of competitors in the ear of every QB you try to recruit telling them that they'll never see the field until the coach's kid graduates. We witnessed that effect. With a safety, it's not an issue. Only 1 QB plays. At least 3 or 4 safeties get significant snaps with all the nickel and dime sets these days.

I'll believe he's a P12 caliber safety when I see other P12 teams offer him a scholarship. Otherwise this is nepotism.

What if other schools offer just to mess with us. What if this is what HCMM is anticipating so his kid can spy for his dad at another school?

That sure gave CU the edge v. fUCLA a couple of years back...

If he can play, we need him. Not the same situation as D2 since not a QB. Did you know Cody grew this last year to 5' 10 1/8"?

I'm not sure if he is tall enough for hoops. He does have a nice 3 pointer and very good ball handling skills. Effort is his best quality, his motor never stops.
