Let's use this to post and track any rumors related to Mike's replacment:

Bruce Feldman thinks Texas rangers president and former CU recruiting coordinator will be on the short list:

But would he be a good hire?

CU roots in our AD with a good B-Mac relationship plus years of management at the PGA & the Texas Rangers rubbing elbows with very wealthy individuals and major sponsors. I don't know the guy, but it sure looks he would be a great hire from a resume perspective.

Did he work at Wyo at some point, or does Ringolsby just know about him from his time with the Rangers?

Well, I guess this all makes for some good off season drama....

BTW, in the tweet above, what does "he applied for every job" mean?

Sounds like Tracy isn't impressed with his name coming up, because for some reason he thinks George chases every job that comes along. Usually with Tracy that level of bitterness means that somebody worked at Wyo for a time and left for a better job, as everyone there does....

Are you guys talking about the guy on the Rockies broadcasts who dresses like Howdie Doodie?

Re: Mike Bohn replacment rumor thread

Is the job as CU AD better than being the Rangers President?

Have you ever attended a day game at the Ball Park in Arlington in August?

Texas Rangers management either go to to the White House or Dal Ward. It's a wash which is better.

Don't know, but isn't Nolan Ryan CEO and President of the Rangers? I think George is President of Business Ops or something like that.

George is President of Business Operations according to the Rangers website.

I think I heard that there is a move to push Ryan out of management down there. Have to wonder if that might be part of the reason George might look around...

Unless he would be in line to replace Ryan. After reading his bio, he sure seems like a good candidate - plenty of fundraising and sponsorship experience, an he spent plenty of time in collegiate sports including as CU's Associate AD during the McCartney heyday.

Bohn made about 300k with incentives that could make that 400k.. I'd have to think the Rangers pay their President more than that. I tried looking really quick, but couldn't find his salary.

Either way, seems like he'd be a good hire if we could get him.

Hire a football guy. Bohn was a KU alum, and we shouldn't have been surprised he did great for our bball program. We need football to bounce back - so CU should hire a proven football exec. Not someone from the Texas Rangers with experience from the PGA Tour. WTF! Please tell me we're joking with Rick F'ing George!

He cut his teeth as B-Mac's football operations & recruiting coordinator guy. I'm just fine with George's college football bona fides.

You do realize that not only did Rick F'ing George play football at Illinois, but he has worked as an Associate AD at CU and Vandy, and was a recruiting coordinator at Illinois? Not exactly new to collegiate athletics.

Also, look at Larry Scott - he came from women's tennis with no collegiate experience and has been a pretty successful leader of the Pac 12. Sometimes great leadership can transcend a specific industry.

CU might finally bring a baseball program back to campus.

Rick George's bio states he played football at the University of Illinois in the 80s, then was their recruiting coordinator for four years before coming to CU to be an AAD for football during the mid Bill McCartney years. After working as associate AD for Vandy he went into golf and baseball, but I would argue his foundation in sports was as a football guy. Now he's just well-rounded which never hurts.

Ringolsby's a Wyoming guy. Meaning he grew up there. Once you are from Wyoming, you aren't from anywhere else. Use any positive or negative metaphor you want but it sticks to you like sandburs and cow manure.

You can't convince me Rick George is qualified to be an AD with an emphasis in football based on his resume. He's not. This would be a total leap of faith to assume he can do this job.

1. He was Vandy's Assc. AD of External Operations 15 years ago
2. He was CU's Assc. AD of football operations 22 years ago

Not only were his FB experiences a minimum of 15 years ago, they were both at associate level positions. You think this guy is qualified to take over as AD? How so?

Okay, we know who you don't like. Who would you recommend?

Consider what the job is and what it is not.

It's more like being Larry Scott Jr. (who is a tennis guy) than it is being an NFL GM.

Someone who has:

1-10. Recent FB exec success - this cannot be undermined or talked around. It's the #1-10 success criteria for me.
11. Obviously good experience organizing fundraising efforts
12. Good retention record - someone who keeps good hires

As for names, AD positions have a deep floor of candidates that would not be apparent to the casual fan. I wouldn't expect people to know all the names and potential hires for a position like this.
