From his press conference:

When I work in an environment in which it's no longer acceptable to make fun of Catholics, I know it's time to move on. Best of luck to this great institution as it searches for its next generation of leadership. I hope the next president isn't Catholic. Or Jewish.

How about Gordon for the next CU AD :)

Not the worst idea I've ever heard. He's got to be getting old, though. He was president when I was at CU 25 years ago.

We need to move FORWARD.

I'm not sure I understand what your point is. Why would having Gordon Gee as AD be moving backward? Not that I think this is remotely possible. I suspect he'll retire, which is the basis for my comment about his age. He certainly doesn't need the money.

So are we prepared to lose Bruce Benson to CSU when Ohio State sends a plane to the Fort to hire their president as a replacement?

Oh, please, please, please, please, pleeeeease.

Benson has not been a good president for CU, especially in terms of athletics.

Think we could convince them to take a Chancellor off our hands?

I would love G. Gee to be our pres. He loves football and sees the value of it. Look how good we were under him!

also.... Who was the poster G. Gee? Is he still here under a new name?

You know how we sometimes make fun of CSU fans for indulging crazy ideas?
Yeah, those folks are crazy. Delusional nitwits, the lot of them. What does that have to do with Gordon Gee coming back to CU?

Funny thing is; the day Bohn was fired, my first thought was Gee. I must have ESPN.

This ^^^^. I know there is a lot of joking in this thread, but we don't need any more re-treads from the Mac days. This program/school needs new blood.

Maybe so? But Gee was a football guy all the way and understands it's financial effect on the athletic dept. (The OSU AD is flush with cash in part because of him) He may have stayed at OSU a little longer had he not made those comments. The guy is old, but he knows his stuff. New blood isn't so bad either.

Gee does understand the role of athletics in promoting a university. People forget that when he was at CU things weren't just good for football, he used football to move a lot of other stuff forward.

When Benson leaves the ideal guy would be someone who is young enough and connected enough to be able to function in the modern world of higher education (not just athletcs but the entire picture) and has an understanding of how athletics can help achieve an overall plan for the school.

I think we all know that Gee is not taking an AD job. The CU President job isn't open and I doubt either party is really interested if it were open.

I like Gee, he did great things for the university 20 years ago. CU needs to find a younger version of him, as Mtn pointed out above.

Maybe he should be getting some credit, but it's Ohio State -- they were good before he was there, while he was there, after he left, when he cameback, and my guess is they'll be fine without him.

There is a culture at tOSU that places a certain priority on football being successful. I highly doubt that Gee would have gotten the job if it wasn't understood that maintaining success in athletics was a given part of the job. They wouldn't have hired him if they didn't think his record showed that he would do his part in that success and he took the job knowing that expectation and intending to maintain it.

Agreed, yet, he was the one who de-empathized sports at Vandy.

agree with creebuzz and dah. all this back to the past psychology is a big part of why our football program is so bad right now.

anyway, i went to Vandy for 2 years and no one cared about sports there.....at all. basketball, maybe a bit. i believe when Gee was there they closed the AD. i don't think Vandy even has an athletic department. not sure how that works. though, they have made 2 good football hires and i like Kevin Stallings as a basketball coach. bad last year but usually a bubble type team....and a sweet 16 a couple years ago. i went to a tulane-vandy football game and i've been to high school games that had more energy.

edit: UF, UGA are good schools in the SEC. Alabama is also a good school. Tennessee is not horrible.

I never really thought of Bama as good academically. I would actually think Tennessee was better. But I'm far from an SEC academic expert.

Basically what Gee did was put Athletics in the Student Affairs Department from my understanding. The idea being to align it more with the general student population.
