How much will Dre going in the 1st round help Boyle recruit in future classes?

Boyle has to be excited that Dre went in the 1st round. He turned a 3 star into a 1st rounder, and if Spencer goes in the 1st round next year, it will be two 3 stars in three years that are his recruits (Three 3 stars if you count Burks too).

Amazing talent evaluation and player development by Boyle and his coaching staff. Both guys were massively underrrated though, especially Dinwiddie.

I think the biggest dividends will be on the recruiting trail in 2014 and 2015 and so on. We already got a top 100 talent in 2014 with Collier. Our 2013 class was entirely top 150 players, a first for the program.

Boyle has been good at spotting talent that blows up during his senior year (Dinwiddie, Scott, Thomas, Jenkins, Flethcer, King, etc). Practically our whole team minus XJ, Stalzer and Talton.

I think Boyle really wants to land that elusive five star one-and-done type player/All-American. I think the 2014 or 2015 class will have a good chance. If we can continue the momentum this year with another tourney appearance and hopefully a deep run, Boyle should have the ammo needed to land one of those guys.

We will probably never recruit at the Zona/UCLA level, but we can definitely aim for 3rd best, and I will take Boyle over the other two guys coaching those programs right now.

Fun times in Buff bball land!!

Would think it would continue to help CU get the upper 3 star and 4 star recruits. Not many programs can say they have had 2 first round picks get selected in the last 3 drafts. Sure, the elite teams mostly can but after that CU should be a great landing spot for a lot of talented kids. It might get the attention of some of the truly elite talent, as well.

Although, I don't think that is necessarily something Boyle is determined to do. Would say that there are very few 5 star talents that are one and done. Around 20-25% of 5 star talents are

It'll definitely help. The next step is to win the regular season Pac 12 championship and make a real run in the tournament. If that happens next year (and I think it could), I think the scales will have officially tipped.

2015 is the first big chance. I haven't looked much at that class, but a guy like Ivan Rabb would be a great chance for Tad to finally get that elusive "one and done". It's a bit of a long shot, but you never know. Honestly, I'm thinking our best chance is De'Ron Davis. Reportedly we're sitting pretty good on Davis right now, so we'll see.

All that said, we can't discount how hard it is to land these guys. Honestly, the fact that Tad was even CLOSE with Jabari Bird shows how big of a badass he is. These are kids who have been hearing from people since middle school.

Having guys drafted certainly helps but the next step is to start showing up on the second weekend of the tourney, be one of the teams getting time on sportscenter and in the national press at tourney time.

I don't see Tad as a guy who is in love with getting one and done type talent. At the same time if he sees individuals in that catagory that he likes I wouldn't put it past him to close them in the future. Seems like everytime somebody says Tad can't do something he proves them wrong so at this point I'm not going to put anything past him.

"Come to CU, where we compete for PAC-12 titles & go to the Dance, have at least 1 player go in the 1st round, then reload -- every ****ing year."

Really is amazing how far the program has come in 3 seasons.

Hopefully Spencer can play his way into the lottery next season and give Tad that much more ammo for recruiting.

back to eat my crow. I still stand behind it. My buddy who is a GM told me that his team told Andre to got back to school. Also said if Dinwiddie came out this year they would have drafted him in first rd with their selection. Also likes XJ's pro potential more than Dre's....

XJ's going to shock some people next year. I'm putting him in the Dinwiddie grouping of "guys who probably won't go pro after sophomore year, but they have to seriously think about it". We may lose him.

Roberson's first round selection was pivotal for our program. Not only does it show recruits that Tad & Co can prepare you for the NBA, it shows them that he can send you in the first round. I am not sure I agree with the argument that Tad doesn't like the one and done types. I am not sure any coach would be against landing Top-25 recruits. I do believe he loves team players that are very versatile.

Tad is going to have even more recruiting material to sell after Dinwiddie, XJ, Scott and Gordon all get picked in the draft (*not in the same year). Also let's hope that Carlon and Corey can work their ways onto NBA Rosters.

I don't think Boyle is opposed to getting them, but don't think it is something he likely feels CU has to do to improve as a program.

I think this is right on. Tad's going to recruit the kids he feels are the best fits for what he wants to do and who provide the most value over the long term. If he feels a 5* can make this team a contender before leaving for the NBA after one season, that's who he'll go after. If he feels like a kid like Stalzer can provide an immediate security blanket and provide solid depth for 4 years, he'll get the offer. Really, I think Tad would be happy to land an elite talent, but he's not going to force a bad fit just to say he landed a 5* talent (hello, Tony Wroten).

Lets not assume that all 5 stars are one and done. We can sign a five star and still get 2 or 3 years out of them.

Sure, but the OP specifically mentioned one and done type talents. With a growing list of NBA talents coming out of Boulder, I think a lot of people feel that is the next step in recruiting. I can't say I agree completely, but that's the discussion here.

It clearly is a nice recruiting pitch. As I mentioned in another read, there are not many programs out there that regularly churn out NBA draft picks outside of the select bluebloods. In fact, there are many notable "quality" programs that have a shocking lack of guys getting into the NBA.

As nice as it is, making the Sweet 16 and Final Four is my personal favorite recruiting pitch.

IMO nearly every prospect wants to play in the NBA. if you can pitch draft success to a high school kid, it is going to help a lot.

Yeah, I don't see him adding 4/5 star players just because they are ranked that way. Everything else has to fit, and they have to be coachable (Wroten really wasn't imo)

I don't think Tad sees the recruiting rankings as the end all. He's found players that are NBA level talents that were not seen as such in the recruiting process. His comments on Gordon being possibly the best of our 2012 class shows that he doesn't exactly care who is ranked high by scouts.

CU's in a position where with their success (both on the court, and in getting players to the NBA) that he will have an excellent shot at getting players that might just need a little fine tuning to become big impact players at the college level. Occasionally, he might have the chance to get the McDonald All-American type recruit but those battles are going to be tough to win.
