Is J Webb still on the team?

We had gotten that prognosis that he'd return from injury and be available around the start of conference play.

Then he got arrested with his Fusker buddy.

Since then, I haven't seen his name mentioned by HCMM or any local media.

Anyone have any info?

No info on that one either but I hope for everyone's sake that he is not on the team anymore. Before the arrest, his support on the sideline could have been valuable. But if there is legitimate character concerns now than I don't see why HCMM would want him on the sideline. JWebb sure gave it his all while he was here but he is not a BCS-level QB. Onward and upward.

He's still a CU qb according to the news reports the other day about his court date. The media could be just a clueless about this as we are though. With the injury, the legal mess, and the denial of a sixth year of eligibility, it doesn't really make much sense to keep him around.

the media is about as accurate about CU QBs as BB2 is. He may still be on the roster officially just pending some legal issues being dealt with but I don't see any way that he is on the team this year short of some miracle revalation that the entire story that was reported was completely wrong.

I guess I need to be reminded about what he did that night that was so bad.

Still on team pending outcome of legal situation. i do not expect he will be removed once this plays out based on what I have heard.

Not sure if you're serious or not... but Webb and Lewis jumped an AFA cadet and beat him unconscious. I'd be kinda shocked if they both don't end up doing a little time.

Since the incident, there have been suggestions that Lewis was the main culprit, and that Webb's involvement may have been as simple as trying to break up the fight. If that's the version of events that comes out in the judicial process, then I'd be kinda shocked if Webb does any more time than what he served while waiting to post bail. If he was more actively involved in the assault, then you may be right that he has more punishment (court and university-imposed) ahead of him.

The kid has a torn ACL, has been a mediocre QB (that's being generous) for 3 years with 2 different teams, and now an arrest record. I hope he's gone. Medically retire, quit, kick him off, I don't care.

And he is still arguably better than any other QB's we have on the roster. At the very least he would be a better option as #2 than any other QB's

Eh, I'm not so sure. Besides he's a senior and he's not taking us to a bowl game this year, so I'd rather the younger guys who MAY actually help us in the future take those reps and get the most attention/instruction from our new staff. Better to spend our efforts training up the young kids this year than wasting time teaching an old dog new tricks IMO.

Agree absolutely. It's not like he's going to win us any games, he's had plenty of opportunity to do that and failed.

he also is a liability to the program from a PR standpoint. Even if the court let's him go completely in the media he will be the "CU QB who helped beat up the cadet." In my mind M2 and a new program just don't need that grief. I'd rather use his scholly for someone who may make a positive contribution rather than reflect poorly on the program.

Did the F$skers officially accept Lewis to the university despite all this? Is he on their team? Absolutely no reporting on this aspect of the case.

I think Webb is exactly the type of player you want ready at a moment's notice off the bench. He can also be a big asset in the meeting rooms for the younger guys.

I honestly don't care either way and would just as soon see a younger QB get PT in the backup role.

But I find it interesting that people can talk about how "rehabbed" Connor Wood is under the new coaching staff and how great he is going to play, while throwing Webb under the bus permanently for playing less awful under the very same conditions that Wood did. Actually, Webb had a month to prepare, while Wood had a RS year, a full spring, in addition.

Save the 10,000 word explanation as to why Webb is bad and Wood is good. The reality is that Webb played under two of college footballs worst offensive leaders in recent memory. Wood looked awful under Embree as well. We will see how it all plays out. Save the explanation please.

Maybe he can help some in the meeting room, but he's new to these coaches and this offense too, so his ability to help would be limited somewhat as it relates to executing the offense. And I'd agree about him coming off the bench if we were going to be competing for a bowl berth this year, but I don't see it and if his departure means more reps for Dillon and Sefo then I'm all for that.

Could have something to do with the fact that Wood has 1 career start and Webb has like 30, so we're pretty sure we know what we have with Webb, while there is still some potential with Wood that he can be effective. Blame coaching all you want, but in 30 starts you'd expect to see something. Also with Wood having 2 years if eligibility left, there's more reason to invest time in his development since he can help us beyond this year.

If nothing comes from the fighting incident, how does NewMac maintain consistency and his principles? He keeps Webb on the team, even if he may not be a great asset, imho. Besides, doing so essentially reserves a spot for some highly ranked recruit in the following class - after we've chalked up some wins and garnered some respectability.

So we can only look at starts?
Buff fans refuse to believe that Webb outplayed Wood in practice and also in games. Half empty IMO.

I'm not advocating Webb be named the starter or even be considered for PT by the way. It's just interesting....

Let me get this right: guilty even if proven innocent? Grrreeeaaattt...

30 starts!! Are you kidding? What do you expect to see from Webb that he hasn't done for 3 years as a D1 QB? Webb may have outplayed Wood last year, but I believe Wood has some potential that we may or may not see this year. I'd sure rather take that risk than starting Webb knowing exactly how mediocre he will be only to have him graduate and be in the same position again next year.

^^This X 20 ^^

Webb isn't going to get better, he isn't a part of our future, he hasn't been a good part of our past.

Wood may be a total bust or he may start to show why he was a highly rated recruit coming out of HS. The last thing he needs is to have a known loser looking over his shoulder the first time he has a rough day.

For better or worse, though I don't see how it could get much worse, it is time to move on, without Webb.

I think some of you need to differentiate between "good starter option" and "solid backup option" when talking about Webb. You are damn right I feel more comfortable with Webb at QB2 than anyone else on the roster.

This times ten. MM and crew can make Connor Wood do much better than Webb, but not Webb? I dont believe it. With that said, if Webb did what he is accused of, he doesn't play and is not on the team. If not, I would want him as the backup.
