Absolutely. The CSU game is not a positive thing for CU.

I'll pollify a scenario that isn't necessarily ideal but might be interesting.

Here goes:

Option A: Play CSU at Invesco every year

Option B: Home & Home series with 3 or 4 Front Range institutions on a rotating basis. In the years when we have 5 Pac-12 home games, we play away for the regional rivalry game. In the years when we have 4 Pac-12 home games, we play at Folsom for the regional rivalry game. We play AFA, Wyoming and CSU with possible inclusion of New Mexico to add a fourth.

It would look something like this:

Year 2

I've been waiting my entire adult life for a road trip to catch the Buffs at AFA.

I like your concept, would be better for CU, better for college football in the region, and would make the game more notable and interesting nationally.

The only problem I have with it is that we would be giving a gift to each of those schools with a one and one. Each should be done on a two for one basis, two in Boulder for one at their place. We are still the major conference school and the national name. It's a little harder to line up with the PAC schedule but if we end up with a few years with an additional home game thats okay with me as well.

2-for-1 contracts are going away, Mtn. Even Texas played at Wyoming.

Count me out on the "Front Range rotation" and let's go back to national scheduling.

The recent Wyoming-Texas series was a 2-for-1

That wasn't my point, but I probably confused it with that example. Or at least didn't explain the point I was making very clearly.

It's really hard to get one-offs any more. It's really hard to get 2-for-1s.

We don't have the type of facility that generates such ridiculous income that we can write a check that makes it worthwhile for a D1 program to do a 2-for-1 or a one-off. We do home/home series with Hawaii and Fresno State. The schools I'm talking about are on the same level as those schools. Unless we find a school in scheduling desperation like UMass was, we're simply not going to find a 2-for-1 with a D1 program.

I'd be ok with the Front Range rotation if NM was taken out. One and occasionally two such games a year would help piqué more regional interest, rather than just maintaining the cs ewe thing. I'd prefer to get the Sac States and the like off the schedules and replace them with more national teams, as Duff suggested.

Wyoming gets about 18k per home game, same with CSU and UMN. AFA does about 35K and at much lower prices than CU charges.

.

For CSU and Wyo a high profile sellout is worth trading a 2 for 1. AFA much less so since they are seen as a national program with the military appeal.

If we are playing every other year in Ft. C or Laramie then we are way better off just skipping the game anyways. Albequerque is and even worse deal for us.

If we are going to be a significant program we have to act like a significant program. 1 for 1s with MWC schools isn't doing that.

Damn, I'm impressed. Ringo practically ripped that straight out of the Allbuffs collective psyche.

Would be cool if the games were split up.
CSU - Home
AFA - Away
WYO - Home
UNM - Away
CSU - Away
AFA - Home
WYO - Away
UNM - Home

Now that I look at it I wouldn't want the two years in a row on the road, but I feel like playing the two games against the same team right away would hurt any kind of "rivalry" we have in place. Also, with CU on the way up..it would be cool to see how the teams stack up 3 years later.

**** that ****. I don't want to see the Buffs playing any of those teams.

Haha.

What do you guys want to see for a CU schedule?

We've already got 9 BCS opponents. Any more than 10 and we're over-scheduling compared to other programs.

Is it better to you guys if we had North Texas or LA-Monroe come to Boulder?

Compared to going to Laramie, ABQ, or Ft. Fun every other year, yes.

I think at least one BCS team in non-conference is more than manageable. Then I would be trying like hell to get SMU, Houston, Rice, or SDSU on future schedules.

None of those schools deserves a home and home. If you schedule it right you just have each school come to CU once every four years. CSU, then AF, then WYO, the UNM, lather rinse and repeat. Both the FCS game and the second tier game in the non conference schedule should be a home game EVERY YEAR. Period.

I could agree with this. Those schools need CU much more than CU needs them. They also don't generate enough revenue from their home games to pay CU what CU is worth for a non-conference game on the market, and just playing CU gives they a promotional boost in the region, CU doesn't gain much from playing them.

Obviously anything but Sports Authority CSU, but frankly I'd rather be playing mid majors from recruiting hotbeds than rotating Front Range teams. Give me TX mid-majors with the occasional game against east coast mid-majors to give our alums out there a chance to see the Buffs.

Of course, myself, HotRack, OU and others sure wouldn't complain about a 2 for 1 against Old Dominion (Like UMass, ODU needs some games as they transition to FBS C-USA and sits on top of a goldmine of talent, unlike UMass). Of the current Rivals 100 this year, #1, 4, 7, 34, 48, 67 and 100 are all from VA. Lot of these kids are close-knit, but a sizable amount are also willing to go far from home as Stanford's recent success in VA shows.

With wins so hard to come by these days I suggest cupcake scheduling. Buffs need to have 3 guaranteed wins in the non-conference to make it that much easier to get to a bowl game.

Yep, got agree with most folks here that a front range rotation is kind of boring. I don't really have a problem playing most of the other front range schools from time to time, but Nik is being way too nice by giving them 1 to 1 home game scheduling. We wear the pants in those relationships, and it is time to start acting like it.
