WBB: Ky Weston leaving CU Buffs

This leaves a significant hole on the roster. Ky was the true PG returning for us.

I think I remember something from her recruitment about her mom (health?). I think Lappe even scheduled a game at UMKC or something so that Ky's mom could see her play in person. Hopefully one of our WBB gurus can correct me or expound on this with better info.

Ky's mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last fall, I think. I don't even remember if she got to attend the UMKC game. I attended the Illinois game and she was too sick to make the trip so Ky's godmother was there with a friend.

I am really hoping this decision is not related to the health of her mother. I do remember being very homesick when I arrived in Boulder way back when, but I overcame it by Christmas.

I think this means B-Wil plays the point until frosh Desiree Harris is ready to play. I also realize B-Wil can't play 40 minutes and last season, she became a defensive specialist. It will be quite difficult to play with the intensity she did on defense and then play point guard.

I am very glad this team will have a few games played in Italy and hopefully Harris gets to see some minutes.

Ky's mother posted on here some. I hope she will tell us Ky is just homesick and that she is getting better.

Good thing the team has the trip to Italy coming up with a few games and the 10 summer practices. This will definitely hurt, at least for a while, but it will give Harris a chance to show what she can do. Problem that I see is that Ky was considered the "true" point guard where Harris has been called a combo guard, as are the Wilson twins. Point guard is not a good position to be thin at. Last I had heard Ky's mother was doing OK but that was back at the post-season "banquet". Hopefully that has not changed.

Good morning,
I'm actually doing very well. Kyleesha decided to come home, due to being homesick and wanted to be closer to us. Last year was very hard on her, with my health and not being able to see any of her games. It was a very hard decision for her. We (father and I), really wanted her to stay in Colorado, but it was her decision. You guys have been great. I wish you all the best.

This was my first thought. Hopefully everything is ok there.

EDIT - and LRR beat me to it. Glad to hear that your health is ok, and make sure Ky knows that we're all behind her and wish her luck wherever she goes!

Glad you are doing well and thank you for the update. We wish Kyleesha well!

Thanks for responding. Yes, it has to be Kyleesha's decision. I am happy to hear you are doing well. It's very difficult to leave family. I do understand that. Hope Ky finds a school that is the right school for her.

We would have preferred she stay as well but it is hard to find fault with somebody making family a priority. Sounds like she was raised well and will do fine in life. Good luck to all of you.

Thanks for the update lrr. As a fellow bc survivor, I am glad to hear that you are doing so well. As much as we Buffs fans would have loved to have Ky continue playing BB here, she needs to do what feels right for her. I hope she finds a good spot that meets her needs and wish you and her all the best.

Best wishes to you lrr, Ky, and your family. Wish you all the best. That's by far the most important.

Hope Ky is able to find the right fit for her. I assume she's trying to continue her basketball career, and thus I really hope there is a school nearby that she lands at. It concerns me a bit as there aren't a ton of programs in the nearby vicinity of KC, but hopefully something comes around. MVC has a strong presence in the midwest.

I've been out of town this week, so I am just now able to catch up with the news.

Ky's leaving looks like it will hurt the Buffs this season and perhaps next as well. Lappe was hoping she could earn a starting spot thus allowing B-Will to play more at the shooting guard. Without Ky it would seem that Brittany will start at the point and either Desiree Harris or Lexi Kresl will be her backup.

Ky looked to be on the rise and it didn't seem out of the question that she would be pushing for starting spot this season.

Point guard is a key position and one at which I would prefer to have experience and depth. Good thing CU is going on the Italian trip this August when they can afford to experiment with a variery of players at the point.
