Recruiting talent complaint.

I'm sorry but after reading multiple people say "we are recruiting sub par talent" or "not PAC-12 talent", while yes that may be true, it is also true that USC a team that's one of the most talented teams in the nation went a measly 7-6 a year ago. Talent wins you championships. Hard work wins games.

We aren't going to pull 4* guys after a 1-11 season. Simple as that.

Talent will come when we start winning games, but in order to win games we need hard workers. MM is recruiting hard workers.

"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work harder."

Anything less than 50. We're on pace to be in the 60's, again

As arguably the worst team in Division 1 football, we are lucky to be pulling in talent with any D1 offers. This is exactly the same type of method that Mac used at SJSU. Give him time.

With the early returns on some players (Gilliam, Reed, etc.) I'm not nearly as concerned, and the fact that you can visibly see the players getting better with each practice eases that more. Having said that, we need to land some dynamic athletes like Lee, Holmes, or Turner.

I completely agree. Some of his recruits he got last year look like the real deal. I personally can't complain about his recruiting thus far because he doesn't have any thing to sell except for one year at SJSU and playing time.

Anything less than a top 25 class IS a failure. The question is how do we get back to where we need to be?

It's an unfortunate fact that momentum is a bit hard to turn around sometimes in college football. I still remember when the Buffs were spanking Nebraska and a top-3 team back in 2002, but a lot of the recruits that are looking at colleges now were just young kids at that time and their memories may not stretch back that far. It's been a tough stretch for the Buffs for a number of years and it takes time to turn the ship back around.

The plus side is that positive momentum can build on itself as well. Grab up a few classes that are better than their ranking and have a couple of better than expected seasons, then that can allow you to start shooting higher and higher the following years. You've got a beautiful city, strong academics, and an excellent conference. A couple of good football seasons that give signs that the program is headed in the right direction and you'll be right back in it for some of the blue chip types out there.

Haven't we had this discussion at a least a few other times? Mac has to be successful on the field...it's as simple as that. Winning covers a multitude of sins like average recruiting, sub-par facilities, budget deficits, bad press.

Once we get some momentum, higher ranked guys will consider us. Until then, they have to make the best of what we got...and this coaching staff has done that. If Connor and PRich stay healthy, look for Lidgren to get PACXII OC of the year. You heard it hear first

Stop with the "hard workers" crap - do you think only the under the radar kids with minimal offers are hard workers? Are kids getting multiple BCS offers not hard workers? Hard workers won't cut it in this conference, you need talented players who are ALSO hard workers.

Look, I know we've been historically bad, but the only way for us to get better is either to start recruiting better than at least some of our peers in the conference, or hope that our new coach is just smarter and better than other coaches in the league and can out-coach them with inferior talent. The former definitely isn't happening right now, so we must be hoping for the latter.

Well, most of you probably follow recruiting closer than I do, but it seems to me given the fact that CU has been having it's butt beat like a tom-tom for the last seven years, I am encouraged that MikMac is getting the quality of recruits that he is at this point. Win a few games this year, win 4-5 next year, and it only goes up from there. Patience, restless natives.

I guess I;m not terribly sure what people were expecting at this point, until we put a different product on the field against CSU (and we will) we're the same team that got ass ****ed every week. Show some progress on the field and the recruiting will pick up....that and there's still senior seasons for players to blow up (think we will have a few commits blow up) and there's a lot of time left until LOI. We have 10-11 spots left according to Adam, we can add some good players in there.

SIAP, but recruiting "hard workers" is not a tangible point. Of course we want hard workers rather than USC primadonnas, but having to use that in itself as a reason not to worry is, frankly, worrisome.

To answer your question, I expect our very expensive coaching staff to recruit better than our record and not use that as an excuse. They are new to CU, but they had a hell of a lot of success at a school on the west coast, so they shouldn't be total strangers in the Pac 12 footprint. They should be selling the University, themselves, and what they accomplished at a school in a similar situation.

I don't expect a top 25 class, but I do expect to be better than the low 60s. There is still time, I know, but unlike some people here, I really don't see us getting a huge boost by going from 1 win to 3 or 4 - that's still a pretty sh**ty season by most standards.

We have a ****** record
we have ****** facilities
we have ****** recent history on the gridiron. No winning seasons in 6 years
we have a ****** sports culture up here (the media seems hell bent on attacking us)
we have a new coach who sure turned around SJSU but has not done it at the big boy level yet

Our coaches make what they should make. Thats how you pay big boy football coaches. Doesn't mean they havent been dealt a ****** hand.

I expect about what we're getting, but there's nothing wrong with calling it what it is, which is sub-par.

We have the longest BCS AQ bowl drought. We're off one top 2 worst seasons in BCS history (the other being Wash St).

There success at SJSU came from hitting a lot of camps to combat their poor recruiting budget and their ability to coach players and develop them better than other staffs. I'm sure they are selling the University, themselves, and what they have accomplished, but they also have to combat this:

"There were people that told me if I go to Colorado I would lose a lot..."
Rivals

And that's tough to overcome without a new product for recruits to see.

Our facilities are not ****. I'm not sure where that came from but from what I can see from the national reputation they're about in the middle of the Pac 12, maybe just below average. Ted Miller rated ours #7 ahead of ASU, Utah, Zona, OSU, and WSU. The facilities absolutely need to be upgraded but they aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

I mean its not like they aren't trying. The coaches have offers out to some of the top players in the west. He simply has nothing to sell them on other than a vision right now. Coach Mac I was not able to get players here until he started winning.

Utah is in the middle of a facilities upgrade.

Zona is in the middle of a facilities upgrade.

WSU is in the middle of a facilities upgrade.

ASU just began an upgrade to their football facilities.

We are at the bottom of the Pac. Or will be very soon.

Saw a list of all the projects going on the in PAC XII. Discouraging...RG's gotta get his ass in gear!

And they had that success with the #99 and #100 recruiting classes.

schools out-recruit their records ALL THE TIME when they bring in a new staff that is considered a good one. this hc had some nice pub heading into this gig. he appears to be well-regarded. we should be recruiting better. i believe the issue is that he didn't bring in any PROVEN big-conference recruiting assistants. he brought his guys with him and this ain't the wac.

i really, really like that he has a plan and a system and that he brought in his guys to implement on it. that said, he chose not to focus on recruiting in the bigs (by not bringing any known recruiters) and that is hurting us, imho.

the only way to get it turned for this next class is to seriously improve on the field. right away. it is too early to panic and way too early to consider anything the staff has done to be a failure. but, the class thus far is not anywhere near what it needs to be for us to win in big boy football.

+1. The recruiting to this point is lackluster. We all know the reasons why, but there is nothing wrong with pointing it out. I hope our staff is better at evaluating than most, but the that seems like a bit of a long shot.

He could have hired a bunch of people who he knew nothing about, who knew nothing about his system, and then he would have been coaching them, as well as the players on the team.
