Couple of notable things. Wood named starter. Gillam still the starting Mike. Bell and Orms at the Safety spots.

Biggest surprise is that Juda Parker is starting opposite CUD. Samson is now 3rd string DT? Thought he was running with the 1's as DE? Maybe this is his discipline for the Frat Party incident.

Severson listed at KR. I don't think I've ever seen a non-skill position player there.

Edit: Looked and he was listed as Athlete as a recruit so not as unusual as I first suspected.

Some interesting things here.

Samson will probably get some snaps on the outside too. Likely gets his time inside when going against smaller, quicker looks on offense.

Jeff Hall slotted at #2 RCB. I wonder if John Walker overtakes on the chart once he is fully healthy.

I'd like this team to be deep enough to redshirt 2/3 or more of the freshmen class but we are not far enough along for this to be possible. Most of the true freshmen in good position to play are on defense. Two of them listed at WLB (Olugbode, Severson). Upperclassman Lowell Williams not in the rotation. I wonder if he's going to get more special teams work, or if we're not going to hear from him again?

George Frazier indeed at fullback.

Mustoe the backup at both tackle positons, with Kronshage backing him up. Backup at both guards Alex Kelley followed by Gerrad Kough.

Daigh still at a high LB weight. Hope he's close to fully healed but Gillam likely has a big speed advantage and is starting as a true frosh.

Walk-ons galore in the 3-deep. Some listed higher. Eeep.

Derek McCartney at #2 behind CUD. Interesting... Haven't heard much about him yet.

True freshmen that look bound to play:

-Ross
-McCartney
-Gilliam
-Olugbode
-Chido (#1 nickle, nice)
-Severson

15 true sophs/RS Fros/True Frosh in the offensive depth chart. 18 on the defensive. Yikes.

It is?

That (will) inside LB rotation is weird. WTF

Prepared to see them in nickel a bunch too. I hope Chido's as much of a gamer as he's seen to be in flashes in practice.

D-Webb is going to have to be all over the place because after him there is a steep dropoff in linebacker play.

We really can't sit here and act surprised about our youth on the defense, we had to know that was coming.

I'm also thinking either Graham or Kronshage may see some time at tackle later in the season or sooner if injuries or performance concerns leave us with even fewer options on the line. Gilbert could be another candidate to play if any of our "established" defensive ends don't produce the results the staff is looking for.

Most likely to redshirt based purely on my guessing: Lindsay to bulk up and protect that ACL, possibly even to start practicing at DB. Coleman's also coming off an injury and with Bonsu graduating the DT spot will have fewer bodies than at end so he may focus on putting some good weight on for the next year. Dunston, and honestly, even though Bobo's measurables would be an asset in the receiving corps this year, I'd love if the existing group on the depth chart produced what we were looking for from them and he could get a shirt too. Connor Center is a given as he's learning the game. Rawer than Nembot joining the program. I'd love for Markeis Reed and 3 or all 4 OL to be redshirted as well, but as we've seen in most recent years there are plenty of emergency situations where we just have no other options.

My observations:

1) Sefo at #2? I guess he is not redshirting.
2) O-line makes me want to :puke: Does our new staff look for smaller guys, on the weight side? Is that what they want? Serious question, IDK.
3) Crawley must be a twig.

Samson is probably #3 DT because he's a situational interior DL for pass rushing situations. But it also looks like they don't see him as a DE except in special circumstances (like if we're having trouble stopping the run or something).

Expect that this depth chart is going to be very fluid throughout the year. A lot of young guys, some of whom will make major steps forward, others who will stagnate or take steps back. Also we will be doing other things as the year goes by and M2 has more time to install what he wants to do.

At least we aren't hearing any of the my guys, his guys stuff we had the last two years, looks like the chart has been based on who performs.

Why are we trying to make Severson into an ILB? Wasn't he one of the speedy guys we recruited last year? Seems like his combination of size and speed would make a better safety, but who knows.

I'm hoping the coaches.

I must be either very confused, have an awful memory or something else, but what happened to Gerald Thomas? That guy was one of the few brightspots we had last year in limited minutes for reasons unknown because he could really run. He is gone?

GT left the team this summer, presumably to be closer to his new daughter. He saw some time last year, but I think you'd have a hard time putting together a highlight reel for him.

Gerald Thomas was kicked off the team before fall camp even started. He skipped almost all of the summer workouts and didn't seem at all dedicated

What do you guys think of parker and McCartney ? Those who have seen them via scrimmage or practice.

Sefo at #2? I guess he is not redshirting.
According to Ringo in chat today,

Mike MacIntyre said after this morning's practice that he will not try to work Sefo Liufau in to get him experience this season. If Connor Wood can somehow play the whole season, Sefo will redshirt. He believes he is getting Sefo enough reps in practice to prepare him for the game if he needs to send him into a game at any point
