As one of the biggest promoters of HCMM during the process (some of you remember me stumping and lobbying quite hard for him, especially on those chats), I thought I'd put a few words down on paper. Sort of put it on public record, so I can be mocked if this season goes the way the last few have.

1. We have some talent. Embree did a pretty fair job overall bringing in some guys who can play. Connor Wood, Tupou, Crawley, Powell, Abron, Henderson, Spruce, Nembot. These are guys making a mark pretty early. Jon blew as a head coach, but they found some talent.

And the early marks for the talent that HCMM brought in are pretty impressive. We got some guys there. But they are TRUE freshmen. We are still plugging holes with 1st and 2nd year guys.

And there's not enough talent, with depth, with 3-4 years on campus, to be expected to compete with the mid-range of the PAC12..... yet. Injuries will likely mount and really set us back. More depth will be needed. And we got some holes. You are as good as your weaknesses, and we will have some of those exposed.

2. HCMM inherited a culture problem. Guys either didn't care, or lost their will. Leadership was lacking. Confidence had left the campus. The ability to put a bad play behind us and be confident was not at all evident. Defeatism was rampant. Ladies night was pre-eminent.

Is this something you cure in 6 months? I really don't believe that. The first two games will not only tell us, but it will probably make or break the confidence situation. Without confidence, you fall apart quickly. How deep has the change of Culture penetrated?

3. Scheme. The Pro Style scheme was contrarian. Some thought it would work as Pro Style QBs would come here. Turns out that simpler, easier to run offenses are the rage in the College game for a reason. I am confident we have better schemes now. Hey, we had no real scheme on defense, so it's got to be better. But it's a new scheme. These things take some patience.

So.....

I've been pretty conservative in trying to set expectations, choosing a 3 win season as the mean, depending on how injuries fall. I'm sticking with that. I'm not sure we have enough experience with the schemes to win our easiest OOC games and I'm not sure we have the depth to do much damage in the conference. I see no real benefit to setting high expectations with us fans.

But I'd be dishonest if I said I'm not more excited than I have EVER been for Colorado football. I'm absolutely ecstatic by the things I've seen. Coach Mac-I is a believer (well, he believed in Hawkins and Water Bottle also). Coach Barnett is a believer. And a lot of former players are now on board as well as believers. I can't wait to see it play out and I remain 100% confident we got the right guy, the right staff, at the right time. I look forward to witnessing progress on Sunday. If we can get lucky and avoid key injuries at a few key spots, we could surprise. Go Buffs!

I agree. And I really think the CSU game will be the difference in us winning 4 games and either 0 or 1. I truly believe if we win Sunday we also beat Central Arkansas, and can find 2 more wins between Fresno State, Arizona, Cal, and Utah. 4-8 with a couple respectable losses would be a good season.

On the other hand if we lose this game Sunday I think there is a 50/50 chance we lose to Central Arkansas....and if we do 0-12 is a real possibility. Such a huge game for confidence reasons.

I tend to agree. I haven't seen any of the practices, but last year revealed some promising players on the defensive line and defensive secondary. CUD and DWEBB are proven players, too. Surely with a coherent scheme, the defense has to be better. If they aren't, and the defense gives up as many or more points per game (46), not much else is going to matter. Unfortunately, aside from center, there really isn't a player on the offensive line who has been consistently impressive. Wood does look the part of the Division I quarterback, and if he can play well, the offense should be productive with a college friendly scheme. Powell and Richardson are just about the only real skill position threads present. If they can when one of the first two games I could see a three or four win season. If they drop both of them Katie bar the door...

Abron. Do not forget. and DD Goodson will be fun to watch.

Abron had some flashes last year...I have heard good things about DD, if he pans out in the slot, between Spruce, PRich and DD good things could happen. I just hope they beat the goats...they need a shot of confidence.

I am very excited about the changes Mac2 has made and what seems to be a coherent plan for the future.
The offensive line is the key to the year. If wood has some time, I think we will surprise alot of people.
The other 2 players I think will make/break us will be Orms staying healthy, which nothing we've seen in the past leads us to believe he will and Spruce. Someone has got to step up and not let PRich be doubled all season and if they do they need to pay. I think he is deceptively shifty and has great hands.

I was hoping Embree would succeed but frankly if he was still the coach I wouldn't even be excited about the season starting and I am definitely excited to what a competent coaching staff can do with what I see as decent talent. I think the Dline and secondary will make huge strides this year and Powell will continue to punish tacklers.
Go Buffs!

I'm optimistic MacIntyre can make us a bowl team inside of three years. Where we go from there will be interesting to watch.

Boulder is the only Pac-12 school/city that qualifies as a resort town. (The Bay Area has good weather and money, but it has an intense work culture and plenty of crime.) Players aren't motivated for a brutal game like football in a town like Boulder. And, CU football started going downhill right about the time Boulder fully transformed into a resort town. The coahes are not the reason the team struggles. That is wishful thinking.

WTF. Boulder is a resort town???

if we use your logic then the University of Buffalo should be
perennial National champions every year

:lol2:Literally the dumbest explanation I have ever encountered on this site. Then you add in it's a Furd troll representing this life of "crime". Just fantastic.

wow, what does that even mean? With that logic Hawaii should never win and Pitt should have a decade of national titles...and don't even get me started on UAB.

Agree with the OP. We have some talent, but it's thin and the culture issue won't simply go away this quickly.

I just hope we can start 2-0. I think that will help the culture issue a lot. If we come out and lose on Sunday.. I fear all of the work Mac has done this year will be somewhat lost.

Your school produced the worst college football team of the last decade. It was an embarassment to the conference. CU is going to hurt our next tv deal. And all you can do is blame Jon Embree, Eric Biennemy, and Greg Brown. They all got hired at the very highest levels of football after getting fired by CU. It's not them. Making snarky comments at me won't save you from leaving Mile High in shame after a DII sheep school beats your players on Sunday. The toughest guys in Boulder are the cops that shot that elk. And Boulder crucified them. Go have a gluten-free party with P-Rich, this team is going 0-12.

Stanford meets nebraska?

This kind of ignorant trolling is worthy of the Fuskers.

If you want to make stupid arguments it is easy to make an argument that Stanford is populated by an excess of socially inept nerds. The lack of female "talent" will eventually result in Stanford declining to it's natural place at the bottom of the PAC, after all over history how many nationally significant teams has Stanford ever had?

No surprise we have a furd' troll, his only friend is his computer.

This CSU game is so big. Start that one game poorly and I fear all of the work.....

agree with the OP but please stop the culture talk. **** teams never have good culture around them. We need more players and competent coaches. Its going to take some time but if HCMM is a good coach he'll get this team to a bowl game by Year 3.

Disagree. The good coaches have their teams improve as the season goes on. I understand depth issues might be a concern but I'm not writing off the team if they lose to CSU. You can still get better and provide a springboard to next year
