And replaces him with Greg Robinson. That's bad when you're going back to Robinson. [tweet]376806068468211712[/tweet]

Say what you will about Mack Brown. He's never been reluctant to throw an assistant under the bus.

That won't help. There's a reason he hasn't been hired since the 2010 season.

I wonder who Texas will go after this season to replace Mack? Them and USC looking for a HC should make things interesting this November/December.

USC will go after an NFL guy. That's their blueprint for success, and they don't dare deviate from their blueprint. UT is another story. They have a ton of money to spend. Don't be surprised if they don't make a serious push for Nick Saban. That sounds crazy, but if there's another school out there that takes it's football as seriously as they do in Tuscaloosa, it's UT. If they strike out on Saban, Les Miles will probably be next on their wish list.

They should go after James Franklin from Vandy. Probably Charlie Strong as well, Texas pretty much can get anyone so it's going to be interesting who they get.

Wasn't Robinson the DC under Rich Rod? LOL that defense was awful.

Robinson was the DC of the Broncos when they won 2 Super Bowls. He was UT's defensive coordinator in 2004 when they went 11-1 and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

I was in LA last week and some of blather I heard on the radio suggested $C throw a butt load of cash at Jack DelRio.

Del Rio makes a lot of sense for that job.

Regarding Mack's impending departure, the AD doesn't have a pulse either but I agree they both need to retire together because money aside, the landscape of athletics has passed them by. A younger AD with connections to the state and familiarity with the Big 12 like Oliver Luck would be a great hire for them. For coaches, Saban should know the Bama brand is too powerful to forsake for another high expectations job and he will get everything he wants where he currently is. Les Miles is too much of a maverick to be the face of PC Texas athletics. They will have to settle for someone who will see the job as a major step up, like Briles or Franklin.

Greg Robinson can dial up a blitz and that's about it.

P.S. Can Many Diaz coach special teams?

UT's arrogance won't allow them to hire anybody who isn't an "A lister". They will inquire about Saban, on that you can bet. Whether they are able to get him is a different story. They think so much of themselves that they honestly feel that Saban would jump at the opportunity.

Del Rio at USC would be exactly the kind of guy they'd go after. I don't know that he'd be any better than Kiffen, though. Has he ever coached at the collegiate level? The college game is a lot different than the pro game.

Will good old boy DeLoss Dodd fire his buddy Mack Brown? Or will the two of them try to ride out the gravy train together?

If he's smart with the staff he assembles it should go alright. Kiffin's hires have been underwhelming.

I think Briles would be very good at Texas but it doesn't seem like Joe Pa Jr. is going anywhere.

Texas and USC will both go for the splash hire instead of the right hire.

They didn't go for the splash hire last time.

I'm honestly quite surprised they fired Diaz 2 games in to the season. But the way the Cougs just ran up the gut over and over without anyone in their way was shocking/amazing.
